"Transparent aluminum" is a reality . . . sort of:

It's actually a ceramic of aluminum, oxygen, and nitrogen.  But it appears to have a number of advantages over glass, plexiglass, and similar materials, including bullet-resistant qualities.

No info yet on how it would stand up to phasers.

Video showed a SpaceX launch. Do you suppose Elon used this stuff for the windshield in the Mars roadster?
