Title: Photobucket once again allows 3rd-party hosting
Post by: Angel Eyes on May 17, 2018, 07:19:30 PM
Probably too little, too late, but I thought I'd pass it along.

Wow. I'm surprised they realized they screwed the pooch and went back instead of doing the typical thing and doubling down.

I wonder if the 3 or 4 people who paid the $400 ransom for their pics will get a refund?

No thanks, Photobucket. I had to go rescue my photo's which was a pain in the ass and then I had to set up a new account with another photo hosting place, which was annoying. And now I'm just using that one... Which actually works better... So thank you, Photobucket.

Source? I just tried an Internet search for an announcement (or an external report), and all I came up with is reports on the prohibition.

Goto photobucket.com.  They announced a new 3rd-party hosting service for $20 a year or $2 per month.  Not sure what you get for free.

Free Accounts
When you sign up for a Photobucket account, here is what you get for FREE:

2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min.
If you had a free account on the previous version of Photobucket, you will get an additional 2 GB on top of what you've already stored. So, if you had 1 GB worth of compressed images on the Original Photobucket, on the new Photobucket you will have 2+1 = 3 GB of total storage available on the new photobucket.
If you need more storage, upgrade to a Plus account! With a Plus account you gain features such as increased storage, ad-free site browsing and more.

That doesn't say anything about free third party hosting.

Looks like it costs $39.99/month for third party hosting.

But here http://photobucket.com/plans/ it's $399.99/year

They're so screwed up even they don't know what the cost really is.

Thanks, but no thanks.

They've had a couple glitches, but for free, I can handle the occasional issue.

Is my monkey dancing?

Yes, but I use the Firefox add-on, so for me your monkey never stopped dancing.

They now have a personal premium plan that's $99 a year that offers third party hosting. It looks likely they've not fully updated their site yet to reflect that information, though.

Is my Otto piloting?

Yes, the hot-linking is working again for free accounts.

"For a limited time only."

I saw a reference to a $1.99 personal account on another forum site -- again with no indication of the source. I'm not going back. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

We are committed to earning back your trust and offering comprehensive and flexible image storage and hosting options for our customers stepped on our male appendages and lost a ton of business, nearly killed us it did. We’ve taken your feedback unrelenting torrent of venom filled comments directed at us because of our previous model that bent you over and shoved it in you while we were thinking we were indispensable and made some changes to our pricing model that allows us to offer competitively priced plans that fit the needs of all a few of our customers, because after being free for so long until we go back to that model most of our customers will never come back.

Silly people, too little, too late.
