Title: England slides even further into tyranny.
Post by: just Warren on May 26, 2018, 09:32:25 PM
Anti-Islam activist jailed for nothing more than speaking his opinion. (https://amgreatness.com/2018/05/25/anarcho-tyranny-in-the-uk/)

A total gag order is in effect so no one in England is allowed to report on it.

He got 13 months and is being sent to a prison probably full of Muslims so he likely won't survive for long and according to the article I linked this was acknowledged in court but obviously the seriousness of the issue was ignored.

This is weaponized wokeness. Have no doubt that the SJWs in this country will do the exact same thing if they could get enough power.

Its not being taken well by some of the population.  See this thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/8mbbdp/outside_10_downing_street_now_people_have_had_a/) on /The_Donald over at Reddit for video of today's unpleasantness outside #10 Downing Street in Londonistan.

Yes, they would. All the more reason to NOT let them get the chance.

Unclear about the time line - was he arrested and sentenced on the same day?

Was there any trial, or did a judge just throw him in gaol?

He was jugged immediately because he already had a suspended sentence for saying things about criminal Muslims, specifically the rapists in the grooming cases.

Be interesting to get agricola's take on this, if he's ever on here anymore.

He'll probably say it's not tyranny because it's not the British government doing this, only the courts and police.

Brit bloke on another forum basically said it's a feature, not a bug. I don't remember his exact words, but it was something along the lines of "It's the law. Why are you questioning it?"

Were he a Yank in the mid-19th century, he's the kind of bloke who'd be defending the Fugitive Slave Act the same way.

Not so sensational after all - although it can’t happen in the US for constitutional reasons, he is hardly being punished for reporting on Muslims.  It’s also not suppressed (though details of sexual assault trials are routinely suppressed - and that may be why the court took offence to his media event outside).

This just in - BREAKING NEWS!

Knives are sharp, says judge.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/05/27/knives-sharp-filing-solution-soaring-violent-crime-judge-says/

Naturally, rather than attempt to address the reasons why people may be stabbing one another (other than that they can't have guns to shoot them), the judge thinks the solution is to do away with evil, pointy knives in the home. Here in the U.S. only the police are qualified to have guns. In the U.K., only butchers are qualified to have pointy knives.

Stop the world -- I want to get off.

Yeah, no one has ever been killed with box cutter type blades.  Better round up all the screwdrivers while they are at it.

That island is going to *expletive deleted*it much faster than I thought possible.  The better part of 2000 years of pretty epic history ends like this?  Mooselimb domination?

Really sad,  loved visiting there.

Hope you didn't do it with a pointy knife.  You might cut your toes off.   =)

I guess President Obama did get a little known video producer thrown in jail to back up his cover story about Benghazi.

Someone:

"Not so sensational after all - although it can’t happen in the US for constitutional reasons..."

Objecting to anything in the U.S. on constitutional grounds is almost meaningless today, what with the obstacle course and hoops to jump through and the necessity to have "standing" and the money involved and the virtual randomness of Supreme Court decisions...

I repeat:

Whatever logic they used in 1934 to "constitutionally" make some guns unavailable to thee and me, they can also use to effectively ban everything right down to single-shot .22 rifles. Remember that.  And that $200 tax would be about $2500 today.

He isn't being arrested and imprisoned for filming a trial, he's being imprisoned because he broke the terms of his probation.

...and it was illegal by British law.

Tommy Robinson is not the hill I'd want to die on, and its not even his real name, its his 4th or 5th alias he's used...

'Count Dankula' OTOH, is a much better case of abuse of free speech. He was convicted of..... making a video of his girlfriend's dog making a 'nazi' salute.

This doesn’t make any sense.  Courts cannot impose broad public gag orders on people not before the court in the USA.  They can in England. They can’t do that in the USA because of the constitution. But what’s happening in this case appears to have zero to do with Robinson’s political views on Muslims and everything to do with the suppression order imposed on rape trials as a matter of course over there.

I actually kinda agree with you that this *expletive deleted*che isn't really worth the effort of defending, but you aren't making a very good case for it.

You said he wasn't jailed for filming a trial, but he was.  Just not the one he was outside this week.

Yes, what he did was illegal under British law, but we are LONG past the point in history where illegal=wrong.   It's not a case of "abuse of free speech", because British subjects don't HAVE freedom of speech.  Which was kinda the point of the OP.

DeSelby, Terry's point was a good one.  In the US a Judge can issue a blatantly unconstitutional order, or the legislature can pass an unconstitutional law, and it'll be happily enforced until some one rich enough comes along and risks standing to sue.  so the idea that "that couldn't happen here" is laughable.  At best it's " that would only last 5 years until the appeals were exhausted here".

That’s certainly possible for a range of rights. For a  whole host of reasons a publicly applicable gag order simply isn’t one of them.

More to the point, (pardon the pun) a big knife can do nearly everything a little one can, but not the other way around.  I'm pretty far from being a chef or even a short order cook, but I can see a huge advantage in not having to switch back and forth between a big blunt-tipped knife and a tiny pointy one multiple times on a single task like deboning a chicken or turning a large (cheap per-pound) bone-in roast into other cuts.

The Turkish woman I know came here to study at M.I.T. She stayed and married my friend because she wouldn't have had any future if she had returned to Turkey. She said women were definitely second-class citizens there -- and this was a long time before Erdogan came to power and started moving Turkey back into the dark ages.
