Title: No Chick-Fil-A in June
Post by: Ben on June 11, 2018, 10:22:44 AM
Sorry folks, you can't have any Chick-Fil-A in June.

I'm curious to see how much more chicken they sell this month. :)

There isn't one near me, but I may have to make a special trip.

In June.

I've eaten at Jesus Chicken a couple of times.

Meh.

I like their political stand, but their chicken is run of the mill to me.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is quite good.

However, that's chicken on the bone. I've not had anything similar at Jesus Chicken.

Now, if you want to talk about BAD chicken, try Popeye's.

That *expletive deleted*it tastes as if it's been fried in used motor oil.

We have different standards.

I won't say KFC is greasy, but the last time we had it I found that fishing a piece out of the bucket was like trying to pick up a bar of wet soap in the shower.

I will note that the last time the mental illness lobby proposed a boycott of Chick-Fil-A, sales during the resultant BUYcott set records.  =D

I enjoy CFA. It's tasty, the fries are awesome, it's stupid quick to get in and out even at 12:30 on a weekday. It's not amazing but it's extremely competently done.

This if the first year I recall anyone talking about "pride month." I wonder how else we can reverse celebrate?

That is my experience.  The lines are long at the local CFA, but they are very efficient at getting customers through so it doesn't really take longer than Waitaburger.

Popeye's made with the spicy motor oil is the best fast food chicken on the bone.  KFC original is pretty good also, but the one in the area closed.

Turns out Tuesday evening is the monthly meeting of my state's gun rights organization. I plan to attend, and with a minor detour I can take a route that goes past one of the few Chick-fil-As in my state. So I guess I know what I'm having for supper on Tuesday evening.

Bike to CFA.

A couple towns over.

While carrying a week's worth of camping gear.

Serious touring cyclists can burn well over 8000 calories a day on major climbs.  All those "cycling burns x calories per mile" claims assume you're on a dead flat road with no wind, and not carrying 40-100 pounds of extra weight.  I can't keep up with the racers that are counting grams every time they make a change to their bikes, but throw my regular commute load on one of them and they'll drop out in a couple miles, and that's not even a quarter of what I did 73 miles with to test out the trailer.  (Granted, counting an hour nap in the heat of the day, and another hour recovering from what was likely a near miss with heatstroke, it took me literally all day to do it - started about an hour before sunrise to beat some of the heat, and needed my lights for about 20 minutes at the end - but it was a longer-than-usual day's ride by loaded touring standards to make sure I could cross some of the bigger gaps between Texas towns.)

Nah, just walk to one in Pennsylvania with a 70 lbs of rocks in rucksack on your back.  Then you can have the small peach shake.  If you do the walk with 100 lbs in your ruck, you can have a medium.

If you want a large shake, you'll also have to carry two kitty litter buckets filled with rocks.

I would just say this about the CFA stores I have been to:
1.  They are not understaffed.
2.  The employees are generally better dressed and better behaved.
3.  The stores are cleaner than most.
4.  They generally get orders out in a reasonable time considering how busy they are.
5.  The only Christian stuff I have ever heard directly from them is about staying closed on Sunday.  IMO, the secondary benefit is they probably get the best store managers as ALL fast food managers love having one guaranteed day off each week.
6.  IMO, it is the Left that makes the Christian thing seem a whole lot bigger than it actually is.  Their constant noise about it is what polarizes the whole thing.  Just the idea that some leftist would drive up to a drive-thru window to lecture a fast food worker is just insane.

The employees are also much better paid then other fast food workers.   So they hire the cream of the crop.

On top of that CFA only allows the franchisee to own 1 store, in very, very rare instances does it allow them to own more than one.

https://www.columbian.com/news/2018/jun/07/chick-fil-a-franchise-more-difficult-to-get-into-than-harvard/ (https://www.columbian.com/news/2018/jun/07/chick-fil-a-franchise-more-difficult-to-get-into-than-harvard/)

ETA:
Quote from: From Link Above
Carrie Kurlander, vice president of public relations for Chick-Fil-A, said the Georgia-based chain receives more than 40,000 inquires per year from people interested in becoming restaurant operators (the company’s term for “franchisee”). After filling out an initial “expression of interest” online, they complete a formal, written application. From there, the company conducts a series of recorded, live video and in-person interviews with applicants, taking past business experience and leadership skills into consideration.

The chain opens 100 to 115 new restaurants a year, Kurlander said, and operators typically run one restaurant each. The company runs more than 2,200 restaurants in 47 states, and the average restaurant makes more than $4 million in annual sales.

Again: that’s 40,000 people who hope to become operators, and roughly 100 to 115 who make it through. To compare, of Harvard’s 42,749 applicants for the school’s incoming freshman class, it admitted 1,962.

“We are very intentional with our selection process as we believe this model is the key to ensuring our customers receive the best care and experience possible,” Kurlander said.

Operators pay an initial $10,000 fee to be “granted the rights necessary to operate a franchised Chick-fil-A,” according to the company website. That’s compared to other fast-food chains where franchisees can invest hundreds of thousands, even millions, of dollars to open a restaurant, industry experts said.

Still, when they’re approved, operators don’t have ownership over the land or restaurant itself. The company pays all startup costs including real estate, construction and equipment. Operators may not own other outside businesses.

“The reason why it’s only $10,000 is because Chick-Fil-A controls everything,” said Joel Libava, a consultant in franchises. “You can call yourself a franchisee, but you’re an operator.”

On top of that CFA only allows the franchisee to own 1 store, in very, very rare instances does it allow them to own more than one.

And I suspect they're fairly picky about the operator actually being personally involved, at least in the sense of getting their butt into the store on a regular basis.  I've seen a lot of chain businesses go down the toilet because of franchisees who own a dozen or more stores scattered over a couple hundred miles, and may set foot in a given store once a quarter, if that, and always on the same shift.

I love my Jesus chicken, mainly because they and Panera seem to be the only fast joints that don't douse their salads with preservatives. At least the only two that don't make me explosively ill..

But, I hate the whole "can I have a name for your order?" It is hugely inefficient and matters not when they deliver your food based on a colored marker they give you. But fear not, solutions! My dad picks random biblical names. I am partial to Mohammed or Achmed properly coughed out. Sure to make someone nervous.

Get the Cobb salad, swap the chicken for steak, or add steak, Thai dressing. Best store salad. Second best is the CFA market salad, swap in crispy chicken for the grilled. Throw diet out window because waffle fries. Stay for the cookies and cream shake.

The Daily Wire piece is a response to this article:
Quote
When I wasn’t fantasizing about grease [in waffle fries], I was spending my young swishy days doing a really shi**y job of hiding my insatiable hunger for other boys....

So you can imagine how upsetting it was for me when Chick-fil-A’s president, Dan Cathy, proudly came out as a homophobe [sic] in 2012 by claiming, “We are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’ and I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about. Even worse, the company put its money where Cathy’s vile mouth was...”

In the middle of what they call "pride month," this guy is so blinkered that he can accuse someone else of being proud. Not proud of having sex with other boys, but merely being "proud" to hold the same view of gender roles in marriage that everyone else has had for the past umpteen-thousand years. The latter is not just a different viewpoint, to the writer. It's "vile."

I did my part. I skipped the meeting Tuesday night, so Wednesday evening I fired up the Jeep and made the trek to the nearest Chick-fil-A. I had never been to one before, so in addition to wanting to make my little statement, I was also, frankly, curious. This one has only been open for a year, or maybe less. It doesn't show up in the satellite views in either Google maps or Mapquest.

The place was clean, the young lady behind the counter was pleasant and spoke good English. The place was maybe half full, at 7:30 p.m. on a Wednesday. My order was delivered in probably less time than I usually stand around waiting for it at McDonald's or Burger King. The chicken sandwich was okay. Bun was fresh, lettuce wasn't totally wilted, chicken breast was too seasoned for my taste. But ... the waffle fries were to die for.

All in all, I doubt I'll make another special trip to eat there (although I might if I can do it before the end of the month), but if I'm near one I'll stop there rather than a McBurgerKingWendy's joint.

Same here.
I rarely eat there since there's a couple of other places I like better but when they (the left) start this crap up again I suddenly want CFA

Same here . . . same with a LOT of people. Where CFA is concerned, the alphabet people who demand boycotts usually prompt the opposite - buycotts.

There's a CFA a mile or so up the road from the office I now work in part-time. I guess I'll have to brave the traffic a couple of times this month and make the trek to CFA for lunch -- or stop for supper after work.

I consider Chick-Fil-A to be reasonably good for fast food I don't make a habit of eating there partly because the nearest one is 20 miles away. I think I'll make a point of eating there at least once in June.

I've not had Jesus Chikin since... early 2020... right around the time the world went to hell and my previous job gave me my walking papers. Matter of fact, my stopping at Jesus Chikin might have been to celebrate that I was being cut loose from that job. Jesus I hated that place, but anywho...

There's one literally 1/3rd of a mile from my house and I have never been to it.

But... I think I need to participate in the buycott...

Nearest is 1.5 hours away, without traffic slowdowns.

I texted my boss and suggested we all do lunch at CFA as often as possible this month -- and I told him why.

Response?

"I'm in!"

Closed on Sunday.
The left has actually attacked them for it.

Ironic isn't it? the left wants them closed but attacks them for being closed on Sunday.

I knew that. Really, I did. And I admire them for doing that, and sticking to it.

I hear Sunday is the only day they have Hebrew National All Pork Hot Dogs on the menu.

I noticed that when they refused to let me in the store to place an order, so I quit going on Sundays.  Every other day of the week they have great customer service.  Weird, that.

You just have to wait for a natural disaster and they will open on Sunday.

Just pull into the drive thru and lay on your horn until someone comes out. Sometimes they're slow and they may not come out until Monday morning but just keep hoking until they do. Works every time. Sometimes the police will even show up to help.

I went today. If there's a boycott, the memo must not have reached the town I work in. Either that, or a whole bunch of people spell "boycott" b-u-y-c-o-t-t. The line was almost out the door for inside service, around three sides of the building for the drive-thru window, and they had three guys running orders out to the curbside pickup spaces. I don't think I have ever waited so long at a Chick-fil-A as I did today.

the two local ones are not only really busy, they're hiring - starting pay 17.50 an hour.
I was thinking of working part time after work

Remember; every time you eat at Chick-fil-A, a transwoman is forced to put on a flannel shirt, grow out her beard, and attend a tractor pull.

Sad.

I buy my shop lunch weekly.  We just got a Jesus chicken.  Guess where we're ordering from Thursday?

Chick-Fil-A.  Tastes better in June for some odd reason.  Might have to do it all month...

They need to put some in redneck land. It's almost a $100 roundtrip right now if I wanted some. If I did go I would grab a sandwich to hold me over to pick up parts then go to Go Chicken Go and pick up dinner to take home.

Thought today would be a great day to get some Chick Fil A for breakfast. Stopped by. Closed.

Fine.

So I figured I'd get some Hebrew National all pork hotdogs for lunch and swung by the store.

None to be found!

Damned religious radicals! We need a law to make that kind of discrimination by those right-wing religious nuts illegal!

You think you have problems - just try to get a kosher halal BLT (Bacon, lettuce, tomato) just about anywhere.

They really should have released this last month.

Quote
Chick-fil-A has maintained its position as America’s favorite restaurant for eight years in a row, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).

That’s in spite of the fact that overall, consumers prefer full-service restaurants over fast food.

The survey found that Americans’ satisfaction with fast food restaurants decreased by 2.6% in the last year, earning the category a score of 76. Meanwhile, full-service restaurants maintained their score of 80 from 2021.

It sounds like triggering.
