Looks like it could be pretty good. Anybody know what the plane is at about 1:25? I'm assuming a Spitfire variant?

In the black and white portion of the video?  Looks like a Hawker Typhoon.

All of that blood and treasure expended to preserve England....

Given the current state of things, and the direction in which they’re taking the country...

I wonder why?

That...... is a Spitfire.  Maybe a Mk22, but I don't know for sure.  https://www.deviantart.com/braden1986/art/Supermarine-Spitfire-553154383

It is a standard Spitfire with clipped wings. It improved the roll and low altitude speed so it wasn't so outclassed by the FW190.

In Aces High, the "massively multiplayer" online combat flight simulator (which I was into big time until my expensive joystick crapped out), the different models of Spitfires are given different point values.  The Mk I was given a value of 40, while the Mk XVI was given a value of five.  This meant that if you bested a Mk XVI pilot with a Mk I, you would be awarded 8 points, but vice versa, you would only be awarded 0.125 points.  As you might expect, the Mk I was a dog compared to the Mk XVI.

Often looking for a bit of a challenge, my favorite was the Mk IX.  If I wanted even more of a challenge, I would take up a Mk V.  However, few people used the Mk I outside of historical scenarios like the annual Battle of Britain setup.

C wing variant with 20mm cannons. Could be anything from an IX to an XVIII.

Those are "tropicalised" Spitfires (possibly Mk Vc with four 20mm cannon) fitted with the Vokes filter for desert operations.

Would pilots have to be retrained or at least checked out if they moved to a variant of an aircraft they were already trained on?

Thanks, bscl.  Reading down in your link, I found the bulges in the wings were for the cannon ammunition drive motors.

Also interesting was the high-altitude modifications.

Interesting stuff.

I think I was looking at the wrong clip...

I was looking at the obviously modern color film of the clip-wing Spitfire.

Right after that is head on black and white footage, and that is definitely a tropicalized Spit as bscl says.

I hope this movie is released in full. I'd really like to see it.

I was trying to figure out the clipped-wing Spitfire too.  It might be a clipped Mk XIV since I think I see the Griffon engine bulges at the top of the cowling and the larger spinner.  Trying to find which flyable Spitfires with clipped wings were painted with Johnnie Johnson's personal code "JE-J" at one time or another..

Deleted... didn't realize this was a resurrected thread, irrelevant.
