Title: Fast food at the Whitehouse?
Post by: Andiron on January 15, 2019, 10:04:29 PM
Bit of a lighthearted topic.  What do you guys think?  I can't decide if it's brilliant and accept Trump's logic ( college kids love fastfood,  so why not have a giant smorgasbord of it?)  or if it's tacky and the cheap bastard should've sprung for Ruth's Chris out of his own pocket.  To me the latter would've been classy and generous.

Also,  who has a sampler buffet of all the fastfood and doesn't call Jesus Chicken?  That stuff is awesome and it triggers the hell out of the left.

Yeah it's tacky, but orange man bad and we knew this, he eats ketchup on well done steak! Who cares. It was genuine Trump, he probably wanted a cheeseburger for lunch.

Meanwhile the Islamists had a bang up day, four or five of the Euro zone are powderkegs from Brexit, to swedish assimilation, to the yellow vests, etc etc, but our news is all in on OMB!

If I were going for fast food in that setting, I might have made it just a pizza party (though Jesus chicken would have been awesome for the head explosions). If it were me though, and I had Trump's dough, I would have hired any number of DC caterers to show up with hot food.

Regardless, whatever he did would be dissed by the MSM and SJWs.

Oh, yup. It was sports so I wasn't paying much attention to the "who, what, where, when". :)

I simply love the fact that the left is absolutely going apeshit over this. I've read some hysterical stuff on line.

What are we talking about, please? Did the shutdown close the White House kitchen, forcing Trump to bring in McBurgers?

At least he's serving up hamburgers, not a hotdog and pizza party.

I put it right up there with Obama's tan suit or his un-American preference in condiments or putting his feet up on the furniture.
So basically the worst thing that has ever happened to this country.

It did produce some absurd imagery and I can't help but laugh at most of it.

My only knock on the whole thing is that it seems like he went for really bottom of the barrel fast food. McDonalds?!?  [barf] at least spring for some Five Guys or something.

I'll take Mickey D's over Five Guys any day.

Their burger meat is absolutely tasteless and their fries are, at best, mediocre. Not sure why everyone is so crazy about the place.

When Clinton was in office his taste for McDonalds was a sign of him being regular folk. To be fair, I don’t think he faked the taste for McDonalds.

When Obama and Biden went to Five-Guys and bought burgers for some of the Whitehouse Staff and Brian Williams who was documenting the trip - yes that Brian Williams - it showed he was a regular guy.

When Trump who it’s well documented likes fast food gets it for the kids. It shows he has no class. One of these things is not like the others. Of course yes he could have done something fancy, he probably really thought college kids like fast food and so do I and went with that. He probably wasn’t wrong. I ate a lot of fast food at that age, and even today I do now and again.

If you think Five Guys is fast food, you've never been there.

If you don't mind, I'm poaching this and putting it on Facebook. This is so spot on it's not even funny.

Agreed. I tried Five Guys. Almost twenty bucks for a very unexceptional hamburger, a big bag of greasy, undercooked fries, and a small soda? Thanks, but no thanks. Even McD's is better than that, although I prefer Burger King's burgers. (But I prefer McDonald's fries -- too bad they aren't next door to one another in my area.)

I will note that the Upper-Crust, Born into Wealth, New York Progressive Franklin Roosevelt took the KING OF ENGLAND, on the very first visit by any British Monarch, out for hot dogs.

I think Trump is a germaphobe, but he is probably right about fast food being cleaner than most restaurants. The product is less raw ingredients, standardized, regimented. Yes the floors are hideous and the dairy machine will kill you eventually, but I see why he likes it. And I still go to McDonald's, but the burgers are to salty for me and I love salt. Stuff will kill you if it is the base of your diet.

Bethany Mandel, no fan of Trump, had a good take on this.

Quote
If Trump had managed to serve a banquet, if he had fed them better food, the headlines would have read “DONALD TRUMP HOSTS FANCY PARTIES WHILE FEDERAL WORKERS ARE LITERALLY IN BREAD LINES.”

It still hasn’t been reported (that I’ve seen, anyway) what Democrats are eating while on a “work trip” to Puerto Rican beaches. Just saying.

Also, I just now learned that the reason for the MacDaddy's spread was the shut-down leaving the White House short-staffed.

I have been a little bit down on Trump recently but reading about this seriously redeemed him for me. Not necessarily all of his policies but his person at least. I really can relate 100 percent with this. The thought process behind buying this food is so simple and so "main street" that truly, the coastal elites cannot figure it out, just as they cannot figure Trump out in any other aspect. If I ever meet him I think I could truly shake his hand sincerely not as an approval of any of his policies or any appreciation for his (mis)(dis) qualifications, but because he and I are both Americans together more so than I and any other president were Americans together.

Some "yay sports' figure said he wanted to take the team out for "lobster and caviar" to make up for "what Trump did to them." To run with Mandel's theme, there would have been a week of 24/7 MSM outrage if Trump (with his own dough) treated them to that. Second point: Trump's food choices were closer to what college kids eat than caviar.
