I wonder if I will see a true European military force in my lifetime.

The battalion is German, but one in four of its soldiers are Dutch. The tanks are German, the radio system is Dutch and the language of command increasingly English. Often Germans and Dutch ride in the same tank.

When I first saw this post my first thought was that they better decide on a common language. Wonder if the French are going to have an issue with it being English from their past history of resisting the encroachment of English into their culture?

I understand the new French tanks have transmissions with four reverse gears. (They still have 1 forward gear just in case the enemy gets behind them.)

Their new armored division battle flag features three white fleur-de-lis on a field of white.

OK, all kidding aside, wasn't there some famous general (Napoleon? Patton? Someone else?) who said that if he was fighting, he preferred to fight a coalition?
