Title: I'm Laying Down My Marker
Post by: makattak on June 25, 2019, 08:14:30 AM
Kamala Harris will be the Democrat nominee in 2020.

Rush had an insightful morning update this morning: effectively, he said "it doesn't matter who you pick, Democrats, all 25 are cut from the same leftist cloth."

And as I thought about it, even "hardhat Joe" is working hard to move to the left as quickly as possible and denounce all his previous "moderate" positions.

Right now he's the frontrunner because Democrats ALWAYS care about who can win, first, and then who is most liberal. But he's moving as left as possible, making his "moderate" stance less likely to work in the general election.

That being the case, the Democrats will eventually abandon him and double down (because leftists always double down) on identity politics.

Therefore, Kamala Harris will be the nominee.

I had Harris picked 3 months ago, but she's been doing a terrible job. Unforced error after error. Plus in the modern cop-hating left, her (questionable) job as a prosecutor isn't going to do her any favors.

Still better than an outside chance for her, but we'll see.

Well, there's a good opportunity to make some money then.  Betting odds of Harris getting the democtratic primary are +700. (8x return)

From articles I've been seeing, it appears that Warren is gaining rapidly as the field enters the first turn ...

I posted this on the other thread.  I would like to see someone come up with a list of all the things each candidate is promising along with how much they will cost.  I bet the list is long and will get longer.

Kamala Harris will be the Democrat nominee in 2020.

Well, if you're going to lay odds, I guess Kamala is the pick.  Unless she really blows it.

What if the Dem decision makers decide to sacrifice Biden in this one because they know Trump will probably win 2020? Gets Biden out of the way but “gives him his chance” and they can run a “new fresh face” in 2024 to be what Obama was in 2008

Couple of problems with that thought...

I don't think they are really that self aware.
I don't think they intend to leave things up to probability and the vagaries of the electorate.

yesterday, Ben Shapiro said the reason Biden is polling as well as he is was that he is leading with the black vote among Democrats.  I assume it is that they know him as Obama's VP.  He has also be around long enough that he is a known factor.  Throwing wild accusations at him doesn't work as well.  He indicated a few other candidates have tried to attack him on race and it has backfired.  We will see if that holds up.

Remember what everyone said the D's would have to beat Trump ??

One thing.

One simple thing.

Not hard at all.

Easy.

Don't be crazy.

That was it.

Simple, easy, not  hard at all.

Just don't be crazy.

And they even have Joe Biden, who was supposed to be the D "Voice of Reason".  The "Moderate" to counter all the other "Free-Everything", Democratic Socialists running.  And the left of the democrat party has hit him with the abortion litmus test and got him to flip on the Hyde Amendment.  And they'll push him  on things like healthcare, and college loans, and slavery reparations and gay reparations and more.  And pretty soon, ol' Moderate (if Creepy) Uncle Joe, will sound more like Bernie then Elizabeth Warren.

I think there is a huge enthusiasm gap with Trump way ahead.  The D's are fractured and some of their voters will stay home if their chosen candidate isn't the one picked in Milwaukee (Home of the Vegan Brat !!).

If Trump asks Pence to step down and picks Nicki Haley as his VP running mate, Trump will win suburban women by 70% and run away with this election.

I think Biden's alleged moderation was also part of his appeal to the black voter. They didn't turn out for Hillary. I don't see them turning out for the new and improved, rainbow-striped, Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) Biden, either.

What if the Dem decision makers decide to sacrifice Biden in this one because they know Trump will probably win 2020?

As far as many of the dems are concerned they won in 2016 so all they have to do is do more of what of they did in 2016 to guarantee another win in 2020. The more they open their mouths the more I seriously think we're not dealing with entirely sane people here with some of them.

The dems I hear around work are seeing Trump as done.  They think his chances of reelection are close to zero, between all of the investigations and, most recently, citing the impending demise of the NRA as the end of the trump support base.  The Dems around here are going all in on Elizabeth "Tax 'Em Til The Bleed" Warren, Kamala Harris, a few moderates for Biden.

The fact that they view the NRA as the beginning and the end of Trump's support base tells me they have a very narrow and selective view of things

Tulsi Gabbard either as the Nominee or VP Nominee.

They make the mistake of thinking that the NRA or Trump or Fox News etc are the source/cause of folks holding right wing positions.

The NRA, Trump and Fox exist because they cater to a preexisting group of people. Sometimes I refer to them as Heritage Americans. Then there are those of us who aren’t of founding stock but have been raised in, or adopted Heritage American ideals and morality.

The NRA can fold up, Trump can be voted out and Fox News can go full RINO but Heritage Americans will still exist, for now.

Sanders/Harris 2020 = white guy giving away free stuff with a strong female of color looking over his shoulder and waiting in the wings. Winning ticket to motivate the base.

Biden will self destruct.

Warren is forever a phony red skin.

Beto who?

Mayor Pete = a white gay hipster isn’t inspirational.

Tulsi is still tenuously tethered to reality = deal breaker, no reality allowed.

Biden/Hillary
Shortly after winning Biden either mysteriously dies or resigns for unknown reasons thus giving Hillary what was "stolen" from her.

Sounds like the "No one I know voted for him" comment.

Just throw a dart at the Board of Desperation.  Your odds of picking a winner are as good as the democrats'.

Let me know when they start gnashing their teeth, that's when it'll start to get interesting because it's the lead in to the rending of garments.

Quote
The second night of Democratic primary debates was more contentious than the first. It also presented the first candidate to stand out from the bloated stage. Sen. Kamala Harris was focused, fierce, and used her prosecutorial experience to fillet current frontrunner Joe Biden. She made the most of her ten minutes or so of speaking time while Joe made the least of his.

Biden is just three years older than Trump, but he appears decades beyond. He was confused, had trouble hearing questions, and stumbled over his tongue. Bernie is a year Joe’s senior but seemed almost vibrant next to the former VP standing at the adjacent lectern....

Halfway through, Kamala hit Biden with an ‘I won’t call you a racist, but you’re really a racist’ attack that will be replayed for months....

Out of two nights, four hours, and 20 candidates, Harris is the only identifiable winner. In this case, “winning” only means raising her profile and causing Democrats to give her a second or third look. Kamala is outstanding in a formal setting, but she’s atrocious off-the-cuff. A couple of town hall stumbles could take off the shine.
