Title: Creepy Phone Text Thing
Post by: Ben on January 22, 2020, 04:40:24 PM
So the previous owner of the place here was terrible about updating his address at places he does business with and I'm always getting crap for him delivered here. Today it was a package from Bodybuilding.com.

When I texted him that the package was here,  I mentioned who it was from. When I sent the txt to him, "bodybuilding.com" was automatically highlighted as most urls are in the samsung text app. Literally a second later,  I get a reply text that's a linked image with a bodybuilding.com ad. It didn't come as a new text, but as a reply to my message to him.

I found that a little creepy and invasive. Has something like that ever happened to you guys?

Hawkmoon,
Your phone saw the URL and then grabbed a snapshot of the front page to preview.  It wasn't an ad really, it was just a feature of your phone.  Try texting someone another URL and it will likely do the same thing.

Oh, you're hilarious. :P

Apparently I have never texted someone a url before. That's odd.

Did you follow the URL to see if it's a paywall?
