I'm guessing they ramped up testing on those potential cures, so we should know in a few days if they pan out or not.  I pray to God that it works.

I finally have the time to devote to a couple projects.
I’m taking the doors off the Jeep to rebuild the hinge bushings, clean up some corrosion and repaint the hinges.
There are hard nylon bushings to replace the original zinc sleeves. The previous owner must have inserted the plastic ones without removing the zinc ones. Wondered why the doors were always so stiff. I had to use a floor jack under the doors to get them off. I had to fab a small curved chisel to get the corroded zinc things out.
I also mounted a cheap or maybe free harbor fright magnetic tool holder to the side of my tear down cart and bent some flat stock for tape holders and hooks that I can move or remove as desired. Don’t know why I never thought to do that before. I have everything I need here or I can make it.
Heated garage, good coffee, good music, and lots and lots of time.
Illinois is on lockdown but we are healthy and well supplied and fortified. Sun is finally shining and I expect the wife will want to go for a walk on our country road this afternoon. Probably while the ribs are in the smoker.

It's a good thing that my wife works at a flooring store, which is considered construction supplies. She gets to work while other folks in other businesses were told to close tonight at 10pm until April 7th. My wife is extremely annoying when she is bored.

Being home for a week+ now has given me unexpected time to tackle projects around the house. Fortunately Home Depot appears to be a vital retailer in Washington State.  =D

One interior wall painted
Bathtub re-caulked
Windows cleaned (including exterior, which I do about every 5 years)
Replacement plastic bumper ends installed on the Wrangler
Last year's leaves raked in the yard
Bare spots in the lawn from having leaves sit over the winter seeded
Other various and sundry. Biggest achievement is that my wife is not completely fed up with me yet.

Today makes two weeks since my pup had to go in for emergency surgery. The surgeon pulled over 100 stones out of his bladder, and one big one out of his urethra. He ended up with a load of stitches on his belly and a bunch more up his junk. Stitches came out Tuesday, and he's pretty much back to normal now.

I made a whole bathroom disappear, walls and all. Just started framing it back tonight until my batteries died. Back at it tomorrow. Funny thing is I'm making it smaller, was a 7x7 bathroom, now it will be a 5x7 so I can make a bigger closet on side.

I'm still working, with a letter saying I'm special.  If we end up in lock-down I can still get to work.

Last year we had a claim against our homeowners insurance - got new windows, roof & AC out of the deal, along with a boat load of new debt.  Insurance company raised our rates, of course.  Shopped a little, got a new policy with another company.  Just received the adjusted escrow notice from the bank.  We're a few hundred short in the escrow account, they'll split that up over the monthly payments for the rest of the year or we can pay it all at once.  The new policy is so much lower than the old policy that, even with the shortage, our new/adjusted payment (including the shortage) is actually less than what we'd been paying with the old policy before the rate increase.  I've always added a few extra $$ to the payment, so now I can keep sending them the same amount and even more will be going to paying down the principal.

Totally selfish positive news, but due to the virus, I have discovered my little grocery store has the best meat ever. I've always bought my meat from Costco. My previous Costco had prime cuts. My current Costco only has choice, and it's hit and miss on really good vs just okay. Since I'm not going to Costco right now, I started buying meat at the local grocery. Even in the worst panic so far, they have been stocked in the higher priced cuts.

They also only have choice, but I cooked up some tri-tip from there today. Made it the same way I always do, seasoned the same, and it is worlds better than the Costco meat. This is a family owned store with three locations. Mine is just a satellite store, but their main store in Oregon has a butcher shop that delivers to their other stores. I'm guessing they are buying fresh local beef that is fed well, because again, the taste was amazing. I'm gonna start buying my meat from them from now on.

We sent out a letter to clients who had money down for deposits, told them since the situation was fluid, and delivery times were now unknown, if they wished to cancel, they would get a full refund. Every one of them elected to maintain their deposit. It is good to work for nice folks.

We're going to a crew based schedule for the interim.  The idea being, if a crew gets a confirmed case, they can get quarantined, the facility can be sanitized, and there's enough controllers left to run the operation.
5 days on, 10 days off.  So unless we get an instance of another crew taking a hit, I'll have a lot of time off for the next two months
I think that's a positive.  More time with the fam, even just to do little things like play uno or watch a movie.

They probably do what our little local market, Frank's Meat Market, does.  Which is, age their beef.  Most supermarket beef is on the shelf about 5 days after being slaughtered, Frank's ages their for 3 weeks before cutting and packaging.

The National Safety Council data showed that for 2018 there were 458 firearm fatalities, accounting for less than 1 percent of unintentional fatalities from all principal causes. In the last two decades (1998-2018) accidental firearm deaths have declined by 47 percent. “Even one accidental firearm fatality is one too many,” said Bartozzi. “We’re aiming for zero, and this is great progress.”

Don't feel bad. A friend of my Dad's was helping me out a few weeks ago and said he thought it was a blessing Dad wasn't around for the potential boogalo. At the time, I wavered but this? Oh dear God, especially with my health being what it is, there wouldn't be a moment of peace... It would be constant ranting, fussing and there wouldn't be an unloaded gun in the house.

Well, except Tiger King. He would have loved Tiger King (the show, not Joe)

There's a new test, with results within minutes, and it can be done at a doctor's office or an urgent care.

They won't mention that the skyrocketing new cases is a good thing.  It's good because our testing is catching up.  Not too long ago, CA had more pending tests than they had results.

This sounds even more horrible. My mom IS still alive. She's 91 and has dementia and is in hospice care at a local retirement home.  Naturally, the home is locked down, so we can't even visit.  If she were to pass away before this is over, she would do so around strangers, and there would be no funeral. I wouldn't mourn her passing, because it is time (she still recognizes us, sometimes), but I just hope she hangs on until this is over, so we can visit her again.

I'm right there with you, Larry.

My Mom was slipping badly at the end. It was getting to the point where she thought I was my Dad (not frequently, but jarring), but most of the time she thought her parents were still alive and that my Dad's parents were still alive.

What made it all the more real for her was that the home she was living in was the house that my Dad grew up in (which they bought from Dad's parent's estate in 1999). She and my Dad had been friends from when they were young so as Mom went farther and farther back in time she was still in a place that was totally familiar to her and she was expecting the people who should have been there to be there.

Her last Christmas she was infuriated that my Grandmother (Dad's mom) was ignoring her...

I just know I'd be frantic with worry with this going on were she still alive and at home.

Mixed bag. The not good-  My last bee hive died out some time me late winter. I'd had neglected the hive so pretty much my fault. I had seen activity with pollen (probably cedar) coming in on some warm days in early February but recent activity had no pollen. Turned out to be robbing. The sort of good- I salvaged 24 pounds of honey out of the upper box.

I'm right there with you, Larry.
Thanks, Mike

My sister talked to her on the phone yesterday and was happy that she was somewhat coherent (just talking on the phone is an accomplishment).  She was wondering why nobody had been by to visit. Sis tried to explain, but who knows how much of it came through.

In better news; this quarantine is a lot easier for a couple of retired people in a large, brand new house, than for younger, working people.  We have the three teenagers home with us everyday, but they stay hidden away in the rec room most of the day.  Unless we need 18 year old grandson Tyler to help us with something, and he's always willing. Jim is working six 10s and only has Sunday off, and Corinna works three 12s, Wed through Friday.  Corinna is and X-ray-Cat Scan tech at a hospital, but she takes every precaution before leaving work and has been keeping her distance from us when home.  Jim is extra precautious at work and showers as soon as he walks in the door.

Since we have 40 acres and a new home, there's always landscaping and yard work to do, and on nice days we're usually outside piddling in the garden or something. Our nearest neighbors are over 100 yards away.

The only thing I miss is my morning coffee meeting with a few other retirees at the convenience store a mile away, and an infrequent lunch and beer at Toni & Joe's Pizzeria. where I used to have lunch before I retired.

In a National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) working paper posted Friday, MIT Economist Jeffrey E. In the paper, he offers eight “alternative” explanations for the welcome apparent turning point, but ultimately suggests that none are fully satisfying answers.

Maybe the Lord is listening to those of us who pray daily for our country, neighbors, our states, our crappy government.  I would speculate there have been a lot more believers who have not paid much attention to their faith began praying again.  The Lord does listen and particularly likes it when his creation wakes up a bit in their mad dash toward secular humanism.

https://www.dailywire.com/news/emergency-field-hospital-dismantled-after-treating-zero-coronavirus-patients

Quote
The virus has been battled so successfully that a huge Army field hospital built by hundreds of troops inside a Seattle convention center last week will be dismantled — having never treated a single patient. The mobile hospital will be sent to another state that is still seeing a daily increase in the number of cases and hospitalizations, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said....

Washington state officials returned more than 400 ventilators to the federal government, which they also didn’t need.

Quote
The Chinese government’s mismanagement of the covid-19 outbreak, and how the United States should respond, are caught up in the partisan politics of Washington. But around the country, Americans in both parties increasingly agree that the United States needs a tougher, more realistic China strategy that depends less on the honesty and goodwill of the Chinese government.

The liquor store in town had sliced pineapple. It's a small place an old KC southern passenger train car. But it made my day.

My wife's birthday dinner got killed by this virus so today was 27 years for us so a pineapple upside down cake is her favorite. It was awesome.
