Title: Doesn't it make you weary?
Post by: telewinz on May 15, 2005, 03:44:14 PM
I am so tired of seeing men playing idiots on TV.  Commercials, sitcoms, and movies...seems your average American man is nothing more than an inmature little boy.  I guess it's what the public at large wishes.

Yeah, bumbling men.  If you'll think about it for a moment, at about the same time men began to be portrayed this way, business and government also began to be portrayed as from the dark side.  In my opinion it is the subtle influences of the left to break down the confidence we have in our civilized institutions.  Schools, about the same time, began to become institutions of socialism, political correctness and situational ethics.

Another thing that you'll see are "families"  in advertising that have no men.

Before all you ladies start to jump down my throat, I work with, for, and admire women who have had to pick up their lives because of a man that was a skunk.  I live with and have friends of the female gender that I admire and are role models for me and those that I love.  We have become much more civilized because we are able to think in different tangents.

But when, over a long period of time, one sees our institutions slammed day in and day out, it becomes much easier for those institutions to become self defeating prophesies.  It is much easier to divide us on many levels when this is accomplished.  Look around and think about it.

Remember the old Scooby-Doo? The red head girl was a bumbling fool who was constantly rescued by the smart, strong man. Now in the new ones, the guy is dumb as a rock and is constantly being saved by the ingenuity and quick thinking of the smart, strong red head woman.

Yeah, it gets tiresome. I imagine it was tiresome for women back in the day, too. Maybe it's like a rubber band or something. When it goes to one extreme, it snaps back to the other before settling in the center. Smiley

Telewinz,

FWIW, television makes almost EVERYBODY look like idiots.  The only women who don't care first and foremost about their looks are the "strange" ones, like "Goth Girl" or "Brainy Best Friend".  And women over the age of 17 are constantly told that they are on the edge of cronehood.

Get used to it, because these messages are going over well with many tens of millions of Americans.

Every unique group can complain about something.

For example my something is Hollyweird's portrayal of Southerners as all being blue collar, semi-literate rednecks who's idea of a good time is drinkin' beer in the woods with ole blue while his ole lady in daisy dukes sits at home with the other 'wimmin' talkin' bout how to make biscuits. Drives me freaking NUTS...

But I've kinda learned to deal with it - I just change channels, turn off the TV or avoid that movie.

Pretty simple solution really...

You mean, we're not like that???

No, definitely the only group that it is OK to make fun of is white (esp) Southern men.  If H-wood made the same stereotypes about ANYONE else there would be heck to pay.

Well, some folks are actually able to laugh at themselves.

One word:  Disney.  Name two classic Disney movies that have both parents alive and present for the duration.  I can only name one:  101 Dalmations. :/

Then why can't anyone else? undecided
