Now that my wife is doing her online teaching via Zoom every school day from our spare bedroom, I can attest that her district still does the Pledge of Allegiance. Every morning at 0835 in my home office, I can hear her leading, and the kids reciting, the Pledge.

Eh, I'm probably in the minority here, but the whole thing has always seemed kinda screwed up to me, even back when I was in school.
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all
Firstly, pledging allegiance to anything should be a voluntary, informed act.
Secondly, there's the religious aspect.
Thirdly, there's a twisted irony in that children kinda have the least liberty of anyone.
I contend that any pledges of allegiance I made in public school are null and void, due to being made under coercion and without full consent. :old:

All that. It's a rote patriotic ritual of dubious origin, and oaths are serious business.
I avoid it now, when possible.

I was never a big fan of pledging to a flag. I think it would be far preferable to pledge to uphold the Constitution.

I also find it ironic that the author of the pledge was a socialist.

As a 22 year Navy veteran and all around patriotic misanthrope, I dislike the pledge in schools. Should be informed and voluntary. Then again I disliked the Sailors Creed they cooked up halfway through my time. It became rote, before every big to-do and being mandatory it seemed to lessen the oath to the Constitution I took six or seven times.
But, on a completely different tack I am patiently waiting for the first person to kneel at a dirt track race when the anthem plays. Have to be a brave person in truth because you gotta know you're going to get the crap kicked out of you, possibly with the aid of over-sized hand tools.

I was just thinking doing the pledge daily makes it just a habit they do without thinking about it. Doing it at gatherings and such would have more impact. I like the idea of including the constitution. Make it more like the military oath. It all bears thinking on.
