Oh, tangential question, not just for the South: Why is everyone with purple hair a wacko? I used to think purple hair was just a fashion trend among certain subgroups of the population, but now I'm seriously wondering if there is some connection to politics. By which I mean, not simply that purple haired people are always libs, but that there is some movement that encourages purple hair as an identifier. Sort of like Hawaiian shirts and boogaloos.

I'm old enough to remember when Democrats explained why nothing Obama did was socialist, unless the state actually took ownership of the means of production. At some point, the Left reversed course, so now everything is socialist, except for the fascist right-wingers. Roads, charity, fire departments, everything.

While either yesterday or the day before, I read an interesting story about I think a Texas hispanic dem politician saying how the above type of quote is a "white quote" because the white people always equate socialism with places like the nordic countries, while brown and black people equate it with shitholes like Venezuela. I thought it was a good point.

This is true. I think the AOCs of the world would be a little surprised if they learned anything about them at all. I still recall the the shock of some when they found out they couldn't just bounce up to Canada and settle in when Trump won. There are a lot of "rules" in those countries that are not dissimilar to what the left rails against here.

I guess I must be brown then. It's like the SNL sketch where the old, white Trump supporter turns out to have a lot in common with black America.

I think the crux of the problem is that the folks who think that a real socialist government communist economy works thinks that everyone will get to eat avocado toast and get 2 trips to Disneyworld every year. The reality of it is you are going to work at Avocado Farm #23, never get to eat an avocado because the party leaders will be having their avocado toast at Disneyworld and telling you that everyone needs to work hard together at Avocado Farm #23 to support the equality.
