This kind of stuff doesn't go over very well in Kentucky
Kentucky Derby thoroughbred slaughtered for meat in South Korea

So what? The Koreans paid for the meat, they can do what they want with it.
And the horse owners can sell their property if they want.
No harm, no foal... I mean foul.

*shrug*
Every culture has it's do and don't eat animals. I eat cows. I love to eat cows. I eat pigs. I especially love to eat pigs. I don't eat dogs. I wouldn't eat a dog unless I was truly starving to death, and even then, I wouldn't eat MY dog. Also, not going to eat a horse. Personally, I think horses are for riding, not eating.
I also would not tolerate another culture coming here and telling me that I can't eat the "sacred" cows or the "filthy" pigs. Which leads me to think it's highly hypocritical of me to go over to Korea and say "You can't eat these dogs and horses that you legally aquired from wherever".
I think it's kind of shitty that a horse trained at that level ended up in a South Korean meat market, but presumably it got there legally and if the former owners don't like it, maybe they shouldn't have sold it in the first place.

I know, and I almost put something alone those lines in myself. Just always seem something wrong with eating horse. I guess it depends on your up bringing.
Just curious, anyone have an issue with eating dog? Saw it in China.
-
I will also point out most of the people who would be totally against this are also most likely the same aholes who rant about westernizing other cultures as being a bad thing.
-
I worked with a lady who wanted to give a horse away, I told her I would take it but I would need the use of her barn for a few hours. Hey, protein is protein. She declined. :(

I'm honestly not sure I could eat a dog. More likely to (knowingly) eat a cat (which is pushing it) Probably would eat a horse if I was really hungry and in a place were it was common.
Eating horse as last ditch option is not unheard of in Western Culture, whereas the dog and cats, well, they had to be really starving.
I believe various troops were dinning upon horse during WWI (and probably WWII, as well, although there would have been fewer horses available)

If I haven't eaten domesticated dog I would be very surprised. I have eaten wolf backstrap, it was pretty tasty grilled.

I have never eaten a horse, or dog. I did once eat a shark. Tasty. =D

I once ate a dog. But there was no second date once she heard me calling her a dog.
-
I ate horse in Germany, it was meat.

MillCreek, that one deserved saving for posterity.

Well played!
Meat is meat.
4H kids name their steers, a pony aint special.

“If wishes were horses then we’d all be eating steak”
The thread title is genius but I am disappointed you all missed a prime Firefly quote opportunity.
Also since when did PETA care about animal lives???

Will a thoroughbred race through your colon?

Horse . . . cow . . . dog . . . you really DON'T know what you're eating.

"No harm, no foal... I mean foul." Oog.
"I once ate a dog. But there was no second date once she heard me calling her a dog." Double oog.
I am not crediting these quotes to save their authors shame, embarassment, and chagrin.

Took me a second or two. LOL
Never had any (knowingly) myself, but it strikes me since they feed on grass and hay, they should be better than predators or carrion eaters. Maybe corn-finished, they'd be as good as beef.

Back in 1974, when I was married to wife v1, there was a shop in the next town that sold horsemeat. Wife decided it was a good idea to try it, so she bought some horsemeat and served it for dinner one night. She didn't tell me what it was until after we had finished eating -- then she asked me how liked the meat. I told her it seemed a bit tough and rather flavoreless, but edible. Then she told me what it was.
Perhaps not surprising that marriage didn't last very long.

I would have had no issues with it other than it being tough and bland.

Maybe she got a cut of the saddle.
