Title: Deer meat again
Post by: Kingcreek on November 13, 2022, 04:29:15 PM
Had a wild night in the deer stand last night. Walked in and turned a corner to my stand and had 4 deer and 6 wild turkeys looking at me. Totally busted. Deer everywhere in the cornstalks. By the time I got back to my Jeep I had seen over 20 deer.
Shot a fat yearling button buck just before dark with wind and snow flurries.
No blood trail not a pinhead drop so I decided to wait until this am.
Started finding blood 40-50 yards into hell’s 5 acres. Tangled hateful mess of brush and trees but tracked and found the deer in good shape. 20 degrees last night, 30 when I got it home and hanging in the barn.
Hit it high but lunged him out just didn’t bleed for awhile.
100 yards uphill I’m glad I didn’t shoot a bigger one. I’m getting too old for this.
I need to mentor a young hunter, one with a good strong back and a cell phone.
I’ll be butchering and making more sausage next couple of nights.

Nice.  What did you hit him with?

Nice.  What did you hit him with?
100gr muzzy broadhead off my old Mathew’s legacy bow. Hit him a little high and through the offside shoulder. Hit him hard enough that it knocked him down and he flipped over like a dog before taking off and running about 100 yards into a tangled mess of trees and brush. No blood trail for almost 40 yards.

I was stupid. I had 11 pounds of bone in untrimmed pork butt left over when I did my last batch of sausage. I froze it all together. I should have cubed it and vac sealed in 1# packages.
I need 3 pounds. Have to thaw out 11 to get 3.
Duh.
Setting up to do another 10 pounds of my famous venison breakfast sausage.
