Title: What is your favorite trail mix?
Post by: ...has left the building. on June 07, 2005, 02:05:15 PM
As I sit here munching on some tex-mex trail mix, I'm wondering what everyone's homemade versions are. What do you put in there? Do you go for all flavor? Nutrition? A balance of both?

Rasins, almonds, peanuts, chocolate chips, small pieces of jerky.

The last batch of trail mix that I whipped up consisted of mixed amounts of sunflower seeds, raisins, chocolate chips, peanut M&M's, and Raisin Nut Bran cereal.

It may not have been the most imaginative trail mix ever conceived, but it sure tasted good. Smiley

Post (or Kellogg) granola cereal w/ raisins, plain M&Ms, sunflower seeds, peanuts, yogurt covered raisins, dried pineapple chunks, can't think of what else...

Hmmm.. I think for the next batch I'll try some yogurt covered raisins and dried pineapple. That (and plain peanuts) sound like what my mix needs to be "kicked up a notch." cheesy

watch out for the yog-raisins, if the weather is hot you'll have a big raisin yog goober.

Bombay Sapphire Gin

Segram's Tonic water

Lime

Ice

Makes a wonderful mix for the trail.

In fact, it's hotter than hell in DC right now. I think it's time to break out the G&T.

Heat is generally not a problem over here on the Coast. Moisture, on the other hand, is.. Wink

RAW Bits.

Yes, it's the all-natural cereal made from oat hulls and wheat chaff, the stuff most cereal companies throw away!

Moisture's also a problem with anything with sugar...

I could drink a case of tequila before I could drink a single ounce of gin. Gin makes me sick just thinking about it!

Anyway, good suggestions everyone! One thing I like is adding pepitas...yum!

And the thought of drinking tequila makes me want to drop a nuke, or two hundred, on Mexico.

Favorite trail mix...

2 chili dogs, extra mustard and cheese
1/2 large pepperoni and onion pizza
1 bag pork rinds (spicy)
2 Snickers
3 slices lemonade pie
6 ice-cold Dr. Peppers

Consume as desired while relaxing on the back of the truck in a lawn chair under an umbrella and watching all the other health-nut goobers lugging their packs around the trail and looking forward to their brillo-pad-and-mattress-stuffing "energy mix".

Cheerios mixed with dry roasted peanuts. Sometimes w/M&Ms.
