So Granny's in the hospital...
« on: January 05, 2008, 10:50:43 PM »
For those of you who don't know, Granny turned 99 on Dec 4th. She's had a bad cold and her heart is acting funny so they just want to keep an eye on her. I'm sitting there with her and I know she hasn't seen a doctor in years, out of curiosity I ask her, "Gram, when was the last time you were in the hospital?" She thinks for a minute, shrugs her shoulders and says, "How old would your father be now?" Last time she was in the hospital was to give birth to my father, he would have turned 68 last July.  laugh

Naturally she's a big hit on the floor, the nurse said everybody is stopping in to get a look at the sweet little 99 YO lady. The doctor said she should charge admission. I guess they don't get many of them through there...  grin

I think being able to see an entire century go by gives someone a much different perspective on things. Making it to 99 years old, I doubt there are many things that you get worried about.

Cheesy

Best of luck to her for a full recovery and a couple more decades.

That woman in France was making rap videos at 120. Maybe Granny could get hooked up with a metal band? Smiley

Praying for y'all......

My wife's grandmother died just a few days ago from pneumonia. She was 81. Great lady.....
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

Sorry to hear that two,  sad

That's what they're saying mine has but she seems to be doing ok...

She's pretty tough, they had to fight with her just to get her to the hospital, "I'm not going to any emergency room!"  laugh

Apparently she's still just a spring chicken...  cheesy

Chicago woman, 114, registers to vote Fri Jan 4, 9:36 PM ET

CHICAGO - The chairman of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners visited a 114-year-old woman who registered to vote on Thursday. It was also her birthday, according to her family, who cite a family Bible as evidence of her birth date.

Call had voted up until about 20 years ago, when she moved in with her grandson, and did not update her voter registration, family members said.

Call, who sat in a wheelchair wearing a blue sweater and white cap on her head, said little at the news conference, except to ask for more birthday cake and reassure herself that her 82-year-old grandson was nearby.

That grandson, John H. Taylor, said the family would discuss whether Call will actually vote on Feb. 5, but he doubted it, since she doesn't know who any of the candidates are.

Since when has voter ignorance stopped anyone from voting in Chicago?  I'm sure someone will be there at the polling place to help Gran.

Wow, 280, I bet she's got some great stories. Two world wars, the depression, Korea, Vietnam, etc...

Here's hoping she feels better soon.

What does she attribute to her longevity?

It sounds like you have a cool granny, 280.  Best wishes for her speedy recovery, and I hope you continue to enjoy each other's company for many years to come.

She won't even have to show up at the polling place. I'm sure somebody will vote in her stead (several times).

Thanks folks...

As far as the longevity, it has to be good genes. Her oldest brother made it to 98 and golfed up until two weeks before he died. Her sister is 89 and is still a feisty little thing.  cheesy

I mean, for starters they used LARD all their lives and Grandpa was a two pack a day smoker forever, how she survived just the second hand smoke is beyond me. Unfortunately I don't think I aquired the right genes, both grandparents on the other side died not much after 60 and I get the feeling that's the side I take after, only time will tell though...
