"Rocketeer" in HD on Free OnDemand Movies on Comcast...
« on: January 19, 2008, 05:47:26 AM »
If anyone's got Comcast HD, they just added "The Rocketeer" to their free movies for a few months.

Still one of my favorite movies. Idealized 1938, a younger Jennifer Connely, screen-filling Zeppelins, dinner clubs with torch singers in long gloves, Nazi spies and a captured propaganda film, Howard Hughes and a secret invention, g-men and gangsters, and some truly beautiful flying sequences. And one of James Horner's best orchestral scores. What else could you want?  smiley

One of my favorites too.

Especially due to Jennifer Connely's screen-filling zeppelins.

It was an ok movie.  I thought it could have been better.  But I have to admit that it has been years since I last saw it.

First off, I thought you weren't a Christian and only referred to Christianity when you were trying (usually unsuccessfully) to throw out "winning" (in your own mind) zingers (based on strawmen positions of actual doctrine) at those who are.

Secondly, Jennifer Connelly has been blessed with a nice rack, the noticing of which does nothing to contradict appreciation of her skill as an actress nor worth as a person.  It's called complexity of thought, you might try it sometime.

Appreciation of her natural assets is not degrading IMO.
Anyway, she did more to accomplish that herself in some of the other movies she has done.

With respect to Comcast's HD service:  I've tried it a number of times, and it's been a disappointment every single time; the audio and the video are always unsynced to a greater or lesser extent, and HD is meaningless when it looks like a badly-dubbed martial-arts movie.

I recently added a receiver to my home theatre that (incidental to the reasons I actually bought it) will insert a delay-loop into the audio to correct for this, but that's more or less beside the point; I shouldn't have to futz with the receiver to correct inadequacies in Comcast's delivery.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Nope. I have the latest model of Hitachi HD unit, and it's fine for me. I've heard of that issue with the older HD units, which were apparently crap. Maybe ask them for a new box?

I've got the Scientific Atlanta HD Explorer 8, and the rumors are true:  It is a piece of crap.  It's on its last legs, too.  The only reason I haven't asked them for a new box yet is that BrokenMa has about 10 hours worth of pottery-class programs on the DVR that we haven't got 'round to copying to DVD yet.

So if I started to appreciate your mother's assets that would be ok?  Or I started talking about your daughter, that would be ok?

I am a Christian.  I was raised a Christian.  Me and 'Lil Baby Jesus is pals.  I just dont think it is approrpriate to talk about women in a degrading manner.  As I have asked others, would you be ok if we started talking about your wife or daughter?  What about your mother?

I am sorry but chauvinism is pretty disgusting.  I will pray to 'Lil Baby Jesus about this.

No offense, but no one in my immediate family has done nudity in movies and done a number of grocery store mag pictorials showing off said assets.  As a completely separate issue from that discussed above:  It is generally considered inappropriate to discuss said assets with a spouse or family member beyond the most general terms.  That is not at all the same as commenting on a 3rd party who has put themselves in the media.

I don't know if it's out in an HD format yet...which is why I was so pleased by this. It looked WAY better than the DVD I have.  smiley

Depends on the context, situation and intent (humor being a factor) of your comments.

Context-wise, are my mom and daughter actresses, part of their qualification for such job being their physical appearance?  Have they willingly done multiple nude scenes in movies?

That would kinda effect my response to a funny bit of word-play referencing an obvious physical trait, especially if it is one that has been noted, along with their talent, since early in their career.

I'm assuming your comment wouldn't directly refer to performing any kind of sexual act or include any profanity of course.
