BB Guns Should Be Banned
« on: January 24, 2008, 07:18:20 AM »
Jen has a neighbor with some lowlife none-too-intelligent whelps...

One of the little delinquents shattered her back sliding door with a BB gun.

Cops basically got "Didn't do it. You can't prove it."

So it's either about $800 to put in a new door, or (more likely) I'm just going to pop-rivet some plexi over the thing, in hopes it stands up better. These same kids put a bunch of holes in her siding.

Why? She's got an 8 year old that they seem to want to beat up on - They're about 11-12... And I haven't caught 'em yet, or I'd probably be in jail...

Set up an IP camera with motion detection. When it detects motion, it records to a file.

Or an IR game cam.

And BTW, BB guns should not be banned.  Unsupervised children should be banned.

And the parents of unsupervised children should be ... ummm ... well, they just should be.  What they should be I won't say because it's not very nice.

Man, I would have got a good tanning, had my bb gun broken in front of me over my dad's knee (and if he couldn't break it he would have chucked it across the yard then run over it with a car or something) and then I would have been the neighbors yard servant until my parents felt I had paid back the $800 my folks had to come up with the fix the door.

It would be too obvious to talk to the parents, and unfortunately their story line would be "not my little Johnny" vs. Johnny get your little @#$ over here I would like to ask you a question and go from there.

My dad would have broken the BB Gun over my rear end then made me work off the cost of the sliding glass widow at $0.25 an hour.

I'm glad none of you are my dad.  I got picked up for "hunting" birds (no property destruction involved) in my neighborhood with my bb gun when I was 12.  Dad came and got me and told me not to do it again.  And I didn't.  No breaking or violence involved whatsoever.  I hope I don't grow up to be a hooligan....
He never brought you an unbalanced budget, which is a perennial joke. He never voted himself a wage increase and, to this day, gives back part of his salary every year. He has always voted to preserve the Constitution, cut government spending, lower healthcare costs, end the war on drugs, secure our borders with immigration reform and protect our civil liberties.

Your dad was fair, but you weren't intimidating children by destroying private property.

Bogies neighbor kid's BB Gun should be taken from the hands of said delinquents andBENT around the nearest oak tree.

Mr.R, two completely different scenerios and hopefully you recognized that prior to the posts after yours, if not now you hopefully understand why, if so you should be well on your way to non-hooligan status. grin

Some brats near here shot BB's at the windows of an optometrist and broke them.

Really huge, double-pane gas-filled UV-shielded sun-dampening windows.

The police caught them. The parents are now out $12,000 to replace the windows.  cheesy

In my previous home, I put up a spy camera in my window and hit record each morning, after a few unpleasant encounters with my white trash neighbor.
I didn't want him to know about it, but of course my kids found it and announced it to the whole world.  It worked out anyway, because he knew my house was under surveillance (and that I was armed) so he and his scumbag friends decided to pick easier targets.

You should be able to rig something up for under $100.

Cops came. Adults basically said "We don't know nothin' - and our little angels wouldn't do that."

No evidence, and the only witness is a minor, and already had his ass kicked into silence by the little angels.

Gonna put in some french doors, probably with a sheet of thick plexi over the things, and I can take that off in a few years.

I have to second the idea of setting up surveillance. Allowing a cheap camera to be the "good witness" when you're not around would be great.

The book Starship Troopers suggest we should bring back public whippings for parent and child. I think its a good idea. No permanent harm, no requirement for having enough estate to fine, and just enough motivation to keep em from doing it again or getting into more serious crimes.
