Well anyways, if I had turkey five days in a row it'd be all right by me. Guess I'd do better in this jail than most of the inmates there... Cheesy

Inmates refuse to eat after 5 straight turkey dinners

Associated Press
Aug. 4, 2005 02:09 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five straight turkey dinners prompted El Paso County jail inmates to go on a brief hunger strike. The inmates refused to eat Saturday, arguing that meals such as turkey chili mac, turkey a la king, turkey stew and turkey sausage were unnecessarily cruel.

Sheriff's officials said Wednesday that the hunger strike ended after about half an hour.

"Turkey, turkey and more turkey is not a form of punishment," the Sheriff's Office said in a tongue-in-cheek prepared statement. "The inmates accepted this reasoning and gobbled up their dinner meal."

The inmates had spaghetti for dinner Wednesday with turkey-based meat sauce.
"I'm a foolish old man that has been drawn into a wild goose chase by a harpy in trousers and a nincompoop."

One would think they'd be too tired to complain after all that turkey. Smiley

OK, I'll make a deal with them. I get the turkey dinners, and they get the macaroni and cheese that I eat about two or three times a week, or the frozen what's-it that I eat the rest of the week.

Birds of a feather, flock together.

Also reminds me of a joke.
Guy appears before the judge accused of having sex with a variety of, ahem, animals.  He wishes to plead guilty so the judge quizes the miscreant about his, cough, "fowl" deed...
So you've had sex with pigs?
  Yes, your honor.
With cows?
  Yes, your honor.
With goats?
  Yes, your honor.
With sheep?
  Yes, your honor.
With Turkey's?
............Turkeys?Huh?Huh?  shocked  Tongue

Actually, any meat the inmates are getting is either going to be turkey or soy.

Federal Law says that we must offer complete healthy meals, and most counties can't afford to offer two different meal choices to inmates.

Since you have major religious denominations who can't, or won't, eat pork, that's out.

Likewise, there are folks who won't eat anything that came off a cow -- beef is out.

Doesn't seem like anybody's God has forbidden the eating of turkey, so that's what your inmates are stuck with.

Every meal I've had at the jail since 2001 has either been turkey or soyayuck.

If you saw how most jail and prison food is prepared, you'd retract that offer in half a heart beat.

Maybe Sheriff Maketa needs to take the advice of Maricopa County Arizona's Sheriff Arpaio and feed them all cold bologna sandwiches ... make 'em wear pink and live in a freakin' tent city.

Yer damn right!

Most of the food I ate in jail wasn't recognizable.  Extra large chunks of celery in just about EVERYTHING.  If you can cook it, they can put celery in it.    The best part of the meal was always the generic Wal-Mart sandwich bread, shaped like a square of course.  What's sad is that the county jail here serves the same food as meals on wheels.  That's nuts.

Hi, I'm jfruser, and I'm a turkoholic.

The first time I saw "A Christmas Story" and the Bumpus Hounds devoured the Christmas turkey,  I let out a wail of anguish inside.  "Nooooo!"

Aw, heck, I don't see what the problem is.  With my current diet, I'm eating a lot more turkey breast, turkey frankfurters, turkey burger, and every now and then I grill one of those turkey mignon filets to serve with my veggies.
