So, how was your Valentine's Day?
« on: February 15, 2008, 04:00:45 AM »
Mine was, well, interesting....

Last night we had my friend Bob over for dinner.  After dinner, Bob suggested that we go to Riley's (the local gun shop).  Jen was fine with it, busting my stones about the two of us (Bob and I) needing alone time on Valentine's day.  My little one had a virus, and Jen (and I to a lesser degree) haven't slept since Sunday night, so she was going to go to bed early anyway.

So Bob and I head to the store.  We get there, and I immediately do what I always do, which is to head to the Walther case.  Nope, still no PPS.  That's ok, I don't have the money right now, anyway.

A little history on me and the PPS:  I'm infatuated with it.  It's georgous.  Since I saw the "THIN" add back in what, September/ October, I have been drooling.  My carry gun is a J-Frame, my main competition gun is a P99, I want something that I can do both with.  The PPS fills that niche perfectly.  I've been obsessing about it ever since.  Love at first sight, really.  My Wife is tired about hearing about it.  My friends are tired about hearing about it.  Hell, I'm tired of listening to the voices in my head!!!

So, we go to Riley's last night, and they don't have one in the case.  I turn around, and Bob hands me a card.  I ask him if this means we are going steady?  He tells me to shut up and read the card.  I read it.  It's from Jen.  It says "Happy Valentines Day, hope you enjoy it".  Huh?  There's nothing there.  Why is he giving me this in a gun store?  He tells me if I hug him, he's going to punch me.  He slides over, and my buddy who works there, hands me a box, a form and a pen.  Bob hands him a credit card.  Huh?

I open the box, and it's a PPS.

I'm confused.  It seems that my Wife decided to get it for me.  She (with Bob's help) went to the store, ordered it, and got it for me.

I'm not sure that I'm happier with the PPS, or the fact that my Wife willingly entered a gun store?

Whoa.

So again I ask, how was your Valentine's Day?

One day at a time.

I'm single. I'm getting a shotgun, but it's not for any special occassion and I'm paying for it myself. Any questions?

It was okay.  We rode our horses a little in the afternoon and then watched "The Man From Snowy River" in the evening. Smiley

The box from Frederick's arrived on the 13th, so it was a very good Valentine's day for me.   grin

Riley's prices lately have been "Ha ha no" when I've been in there. They wanted $897 for a P7 PSP that looked like someone had been at it with sandpaper, when I got one with a flawless finish from CDNN for $599.

That, and the Saigas for over $100 more than Collector's in Pelham. Do people really fall for that price instead of realizing they're paying $350 for a $250 rifle that is $250 a few towns over?

Though if you're over in that area, stop at Robie's Country Store and order their Cuban sandwich. It's incredibly good. Plus the store is actually still a country store, not a faux Cracker Barrel thing. (It's in Hooksett, near the railroad bridges over the river. Been there since the 1850's or something.)

I'll keep the store in mind.

And yes, Riley's prices are high, but this was actually a pretty good price, I've seen them go for 2-300 more!

Also, it's a supply and demand thing, they had one, no one else did, or will for the foreseeable future.

I'll try Robie's next time I'm in the area.

Since Valentines Day was two months and one day after my wife died I went to work, came home, took my dog for a walk, watched a movie, played a computer game and then went to bed to read.

Meh, sorry to be a downer.  For the most part I'm over the "Oh woe is me" hump, but certain things are guaranteed to send me full bore into self-pity land for a while.  I have to admit, I didn't expect to be a widower at 39.  Anyway, back to the jokes.

I worked late (as usual), went home, found two beers plus an almost empty bag of Goldfish (regular flavor), picked up a guitar and sat down in front of the TV, where I mindlessly watched the news (mostly NIU shooting stuff), played the guitar, drank the beer and ate the Goldfish.

Ex-MA, that's a really nice surprise you got.  smiley

Better than playing with the beer and eating the guitar.

Congrats on your new toy by the way.  Very nice.

If we want to share gun stories I did luck into an absolutely incredible deal last Friday which was sort of my valentines day present to myself.  Two CZ-452 rifles (a Standard in .22lr and a Lux in .22wmr) for a grand total of $250, plus $20 in gas to make the round trip to pick them up.  I'm going to end up selling the .22wmr, but that's okay, I don't really have a use for that one anyway.

Well my girlfriend didn't get me a gun (we're only 20 and low on money anyway), but she did get me a reloading stool. Not just any reloading stool mind you, I've been looking forever and I couldn't find one tall enough for my 4' tall reloading bench. Anyway she found the perfect one then decopaged (didn't know what it was until I started dating her) Tombstone (our favorite movie, especially Doc Holiday) pictures all over it with bullets, poker cards, and a SAA clone. Up and down the legs are some of Doc Holiday's better quotes (in our opinion). Just tried it out today, I am one happy reloader!  grin

Thoughts and Prayers to Bryan and OP is a lucky man!

I hate you....  Smiley

Actually, our V-day was ok.  Went out, had a fabulous dinner, brought half of it home for dinner tonight.... Smiley  We were both so tired that once we got home and got changed out of our fancy clothes, we just kinda laid down, snuggled up, and drifted off to sleep.  It was actually really nice....
