Sigh.
MIAMI -- A rally promoting the reinstatement of the assault weapons ban was held Tuesday in Liberty City.
"These guns are killing machines," said Jeffrey Gorley, who organized the rally, aimed at rooting out assault-weapons violence in South Florida.
Gorley said he supports proposed legislation that would hold the owners of assault weapons responsible should that weapon be used in a crime. If passed, the bill would be named in honor of Miami-Dade police Officer Jose Somohano and Miami police Detective James Walker, both of whom were killed by such weapons within the past six months.
A national ban on the sale of assault rifles expired in 2004, and Miami police have said the number of crimes committed involving the use of assault weapons has multiplied since then.
In 2004, the number of Miami homicides committed with assault weapons was 4 percent. That number grew to 16 percent in 2007.
"Every day, our citizens' lives are in constant fear of these assault weapons," said Miami police Lt. Joe Schillaci.
Walker's mother attended the rally, but she was reluctant to speak.
"These types of (weapons) are nothing more than killing machines and don't belong on the streets," said Gorley.

"These types of
(weapons) criminals are nothing more than killing machines and don't belong on the streets."
Seriously, if anyone said that it's not the weapons, it's inner city criminals between the ages of 16 and 25 that are the dangerous thing, would anyone listen?
BTW, for anyone who doesn't know Miami, Liberty City is like South Central LA, but worse. You don't drive through there after dark. Ever. You
will be jacked at a stoplight if you do, tourists who made a wrong turn off I-95 are, are all the time.
