Tornado in Atlanta
« on: March 15, 2008, 03:07:34 AM »
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/14/storm.atlanta/

Tornado hit through downtown Atlanta and right outside of the CNN building, sustained some damage to the roof and flooding according to CNN.

Think of the live report from that one though.

Hmmm, wonder if the "good" folks at CNN realize there's probably a message in there somewhere..

MW: Good one, I hadn't thought about the "Cosmos"!!

Anyway, since from all I've read, there was no significant injuries, just a lot of frayed nerves and water, the jokes may begin..

From my sister-in-law:
(Sorry, Hanna Barbera!)

[sarcasm]We thought it was some one from Her Most Holy Majestic Highness HRC's coven, errr, oops, campaign asking their personal deity to complain to CNN about giving BHO-BHO Bears's campaign more airtime..[/sarcasm]

With apologies to Looney Tunes' Foghorn Leghorn..

That was a joke, son! That was a *BOOOOOM*

SIgh, too many cartoons this Saturday Morning...  Upward Basketball is over...

Huh, Atlanta looks more like a postwar middle east city than it usually does...

It's a mess, gang. I live 10 miles South of Downtown and took a ride around todayto get a look. Didn't get close, I didn't want to get in the way, but used some back and side roads to look at it from several different angles. It tore the sh*t out of  several high-rises - the Peachtree Plaza hotel is missing a lot of glass - but thankfully there were only minor injuries in that area.

Here's one to file under "Dodged The Bullet": The Southeastern Conference basketball tournament is going on at the Georgia Dome, just behind the CNN Center pictured in Manedwolf's post. One of the teams sank a "miracle" last-minute shot to send the game into overtime a few minutes before the tornado hit. Had that shot not been made, an arena full of people would've been emptying out into the streets just as the fit hit the shan. That would've been bad.

There were a couple of other storms through the North Georgia area last night and today. Several houses destroyed and IIRC some three deaths reported so far. At one place North of the City the storm picked up a family's barn and slammed it into the side of their house.

Here at Casa Bubba we got some fairly high winds, a buttload of rain, and even some hail, but that's all, thankfully.

Please Antibubba, that *expletive deleted*it the aliens used in Independence Day wouldn't ruffle the kudzu.

Yeah the basketball guys got a major a miracle there, and the shot saved a hell of a lot more then the one team from loosing.

Anyone see the one apartment building with lofts where the top floor and roof pancaked? No one was living there thankfully.

Two hours from me or I'd take a drive down and take a look.  Sad to say for yall in GA you got the worst of it, I'm not sure of any that touched down here in SC but there were several warnings.

We took a decent amount of damage in SC. Aiken county, Edgefield county,  and the Bradley area in Greenwood County. Wrens, GA was tore up pretty bad, as was Columbia County, GA.

We didn't have any damage to our property, fortunately.

Well, Georgians have been clamoring for rain.  Next time they'll be more specific.
