Saw the damnedest thing last night...
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:13:20 AM »
Driving home from work, I saw a new billboard up ahead of me, one of those LCD jobs.

I few moments later, I realized... it's moving...

Wonder how long it's going to take before there's one hell of an accident and this co. gets sued into oblivion?

We've got a few of those around, jumbotron-kind ones as well. Invariably for realtors.

They're obnoxious. They're trying to pass an ordnance, because they're so bright. It's like a popup ad on the road.

Our town has an ordinance against those, and heavy restrictions on animated signs. Business owners are trying to get those changed, but so far, unsuccessful.

Seen a few just inside the VA Beach line.  I think they're neat...luckily I'm not driving because I gotta see what every display is. Cheesy

Sunday it felt a little better, but it was quite irritated from me rubbing it.

The biggest problem with electronic signs is the way they mess up your night vision. You can be well adjusted to the low light conditions, and oncoming auto headlamps will not have too much of an effect; but drive past one of these electronic billboards, and it takes quite a while to get your night vision back. They need to legislate a maximum intensity for the electronic signs, so that the safety of the public is protected from loss of night vision of drivers.

once the control of your vehicle is given up to the greater good of the flow,
expect the video to sync to your cars frame rate and the billboards to stream media to your eyes

they are already testing this in metro train systems

Reminds me of all the animated ads on Minority Report.

There was one at the Roseville Auto Mall on I-80 near Sacramento that was so bright, they passed an ordinance to dim it down and prevent accidents.  I don't know if it's still there or not.

There's one on I-91 North just past Hartford, where five lanes merge into three from both sides.  rolleyes
