It's still a neat story, and is related to the Civil War.  Of course if someone came up there talking about shampoo then that should be locked.  Maybe it's just me, but I think they're being a little too strict with the rules.

They let all kinds of off topic threads stay open over there. The most common ones are the someone I know died threads. Nothing to do with guns, civil liberties or gun rights but they don't ever get locked.


Political threads that are not within the rules are quite often left open if one or more THR mods has participated in it.

Rules are not engraved in granite. Humans aren't digital by nature. So I don't really mind those practices as noted above except when an off topic thread gores some mod's particular ox and they close it - citing the rules as their excuse. That particular practice is at best annoying and at worst an unmitigated and hypocritical abuse of power.

Yeah I'm with the mods on that one.  The post isn't even that interesting.  I just wish they'd shut down all the idiotic off topic crap.

Why?

Because a thread that is so far off frigging topic as to not be in the same universe got closed and not everyone rushes to its defense? Just because you found it to be "interesting."

There are tons of sites where such a convoluted story could have been posted, but it was posted in General GUN Discussions, NOT General Genealogy Discussions, NOT General Discussions, NOT General Civil War Related Discussions.

Trying to claim that it should have stayed open because it was related to the Civil War is about as tenuous as trying to claim that any discussion about the United States should stay open because the United States Constitution has the Second Amendment.

And, to be perfectly blunt, THIS thread should not be here, either, because it's taking another forum's moderators and policies to task, and I'm not in favor of doing that, ESPECIALLY not when it's this forum's parent.

So, I'm doing what I should have done at the outset.
