The last pirates the British were able to adequately handle were the Pirates of Penzance.

The French launched a commando raid and freed hostages taken by Somali pirates. Cue surrender jokes?

The six Somalis will be questioned at French police headquarters.

They can be held for questioning for up to four days, and, depending on the outcome, may face trial in France.

And they're not dead, why?

If France still had a pair, they'd bring out La Guillotine again, it was last used in 1977. But they don't.

I'm sorry the world doesn't live up to your fantasy.

Actually, I'm not.

You're confusing me. You don't think the pirates should have been shot on sight by the commandos, or subject to trial and immediate execution?

"cue surrender jokes."

Sorry, but it looks like Britain is the new France.

Do you have any white bedsheets for surrender flags, Iain?  laugh

This story:

makes it sound as if the French arrested a few Somalis after ransom was paid and the hostages released . . . not exactly like the Israeli raid on Entebbe.

The owners paid the ransom to free the crew and then most of that money was retrieved and pirates captured. Seems like a decision not to unnecessarily endanger the lives of the crew was taken. Gung ho fantasies aside, that sort of thing is done everyday. It's not quite like the movies out there.

Well, unless you have updated news, this is what the article actually said...

"found part of a probable ransom paid by its owners."

Not that they found most of the ransom paid by the owners...

The owners paid the ransom to free the crew and then most of that money was retrieved and pirates captured.

Some money and a few suspected pirates were arrested.

Which is rather different than:

The French launched a commando raid and freed hostages taken by Somali pirates.

 rolleyes
