Israeli troops post classified data on Irandefence.net

Israeli soldiers post Army photos on an Iranian website

From 24 Minutes (Israeli tabloid), 28.5.2008
Translated by me

Fighter aircraft in close-up shots, attack helicopters, attack boats, submarines and classified weapons systems of the IDF are openly posted on the site Irandefence.net. The site points out that it is not linked to Iranian authorities, and is mostly created to foster dialogues between Israelis and Iranians.

On this site can be found pictures uploaded by IDF soldiers. On some of them, the faces of the soldiers are blurred out but not the details of the weapons.

One can also found beautiful pictures of Israel, from the far North to Eilat.

One of the members, using the nick-name Ajmadinedjad, says: With all due respect to the pictures, the Israeli soldiers cannot last more than five minutes in battle.

[I snip a variety of stuff in the article commenting on the anti-Israeli content of the website]

What disturbs us most on the website is the exposure of secret military weapons system, shown both in close-ups and in low-resolution pictures. We have so far been unable to find out who runs te website.

The IDF Spokesman, to whom a link to the website has been forwarded, noted that the Army continues its routine instructional activities to promote information security measures among the soldiers, including the measures related to photograph uploading on the Internet

Me: Generally 24 minutes as a tabloid. But& WTF.

Could be seeding the enemy with false data.

Kind of like convincing, say, the cold war soviets that we had acres of Sherman tanks to guard the Fulda, when in actuality it was acres of M1s?

There's been repeated stories of IDF soldiers accidentally leaking pics of secret stuff.

I am not surprised.

The thing is, the Army bans soldiers from posting any pictures of themselves in uniform, or of any hardware, online.

Of course, nobody cares.
