A mite breezy 'round here...
« on: October 24, 2005, 10:38:41 AM »
But no problems, I didn't even have to fire up the generator this time.  The power flickered a lot, but all the backup UPS boxes just beeped, TV and computers stayed on. One of the dogs refuses to go outside and do her business, but eventually her bladder will force her to make a decision.  (Hopefully, that decision won't include the living room carpet)

Here's Hurricane Wilma, this morning around 10:00 AM, the eye's already out to sea.  The ocean is due east about 100 yards straight out from the camera view, so it's the winds from the north pushing through in this photo, part of Wilma's western wind field.  Note the angle of the rain, gusts were up to 75mph, relatively weak for a Cat II hurricane, but still tough to stand against.  That's why these pics were taken from my now screenless back porch:

A little further to the right:

And one more panned further right:

Note that while the bonehead neighbor's trampoline stayed in place, one of his trees snapped and dropped across his phone and cable lines.  It was the sound of the wind and his snapping tree that woke me up around 7:30 AM Wink

I'm gonna walk the dog around the block here in a few minutes, camera in hand.  Could be interesting, but I think my neck of the woods did quite well this time.

Oops!

I totally forgot to look at my barograph, ticking away in my office.

Look what happened around noon today as Wilma's eye approached:

heh, cool barograph shot, I haven't seen a pattern like that in many a year...

I just checked my barometers and here in central CT, one is reading 29" and the other 28.8" I find it strange that yours is reading 29 at the bottom most mark. What do you make of this? It's 10/25/05, the time is 1550 and we are under stormy / high wind conditions right now.

Just curious.

What do you make of this?
It means the storm near you is pulling a lower pressure than when Wilma's eye passed 60 miles to the south of me here.  Wink

I took the 100-pound dog for that walk, so it wasn't an exercise in flying kites.  He got spooked by all the flying roof shingles, so we only went halfway around the block before we headed home. The damage so far looks similar to that experienced last year after Frances and Jeanne.

That's what I thought but I had a hard time believing it. I thought maybe one of us was out of calibration but then I went to the weather channel and they called it 29.35" for my area. I was like "Wow!"

Nice to know my antique barometers are still in the ballpark! Wink

I remember when the eye of either Gloria or duhhhh....the other one,,,Hugo!! (yea that's it!) passed over the center of CT. The barograph at Eastern CT State U showed a similar drop that went down well below 28" approaching 27" IIRC. It was cool...

BTW pressure has gone up .1" (2030 EST), this is a good sign! still very windy.

Cheesy
