Ford Taurus help
« on: June 10, 2008, 02:57:27 PM »
Quick question.  I'm not a ford person, I've never owned one.  But my girls car is an 01 Taurus and she has a bad habit of going to walmart for oil changes.

Since I am to lazy to play find the filter where the hell are the filters on those? lol

Well it depends on which engine the car has, but it can't be that hard to find.

On a FWD car, it either sticks straight down, horizontally towards the firewall, or angled down in the front near the radiator.

If you're going to be doing her oil changes from now on, get an end cap filter wrench for that specific filter; well worth the $6.

If it is like mine it's on the bottom. You litterally have to put it up to change it, or have a oil pit. Honda and SAAB are the same way.

Not sure if any of the Ford stuff is remotely similar, but on my old Vic, it was near the bottom of the engine, mounted horizontally, pointing forward.  It was easiest to get from underneath - but all you had to do was lay on your back, grab the bumper and pull yourself under.  It had the ground clearance of a friggin pickup.

If the car came with a manual, it should show you the location of the oil filter.

The oil filter on my '01 Ranger is on the side of the engine.  It sorta points at the driver's side wheel.  It's easy to see from above and below.
