Midwestern Floods
« on: June 13, 2008, 06:55:35 PM »
Anyone want to bet that Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana recover and get back to normal before NOLA does, even with NOLA's 3 year "head start" ??
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Depends on how you define "normal"  undecided
Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

Resembling somewhat the way things were prior to the natural disaster.  Yes, I realize that NOLA was waaaaayyyy past normal prior to Katrina.

I live in Iowa, unfortunately people have decided to loot here, not yet with the flooding but there has been some incidences after tornadoes that have occurred since Katrina. Before Katrina looting was unheard of here. In the floods of 93 there was no reported looting.

Hey Charby, can you guys send that rain out to California?  We're on fire here.

Michigan?  We're flooded in Michigan?

I travelled across a good bit of the state today and the worst I encountered were a couple washed out dirt roads.

Guess I'm out of the loop.

I told it to go to California, maybe it will.

Don't bitch if it starts flooding out there.

I just want to know where all the celebrities are?  Where are the calls that GW Bush hates white Iowan farmers and had this done on purpose?

Where are the activists calling for FEMA to be disbanded because they are racist and the relief took too long?

Oh, just some floods for some white guys, no one will even notice.

For a few months that is, when corn prices skyrocket.  Then that too will be a conspiracy.......

Mom called the other day, looks like my Dad got looted when a sandbag levee broke and some folks showed up to help him get stuff out of the shop. Some of the folks who showed up to help just walked off with items instead of placing them in the vehicle which was moving stuff to higher ground.

I really think that looting should be a shootable offense, justified homicide.

Hopefully your dad remembers them at a later time.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Bacon is the candy bar of meats!

Only the dead have seen the end of war!

It was my dad's place of employment but I'm sure if see the folks again the cops will get a phone call. My dad gets so pissed off about how my hometown has gone down hill in his lifetime, not this has happened so he'll be a bigger curmudgeon until he retires in 2 years and moves away.

There were some tornadoes and minor flooding, but not near as bad as elsewhere.
