Microsoft Live search cashback...to grab when it's active
« on: August 13, 2008, 12:46:23 PM »
It's not active at present, but it was earlier today. Neat trick for some "free money" for eBay, if you use it. This is a Microsoft marketing scheme they're throwing money at as a loss leader while partnering with eBay.

Go to Windows Live. Search for something. If the first link is eBay with a Cashback icon next to it, click that. You go to eBay.

You now have one hour to search for and make any Buy It Now purchase. If it's one that qualifies, the first Buy It Now screen before you confirm the purchase will show the 25% Cash Back you'll get in your PayPal account. It won't come in for 60 days, but it'll be there, and transfer to PayPal.

What might 25% on eBay be good for? That's the thing...it's good for ANY item that is buy it now.

Even precious metals priced at spot (If they're from a reputable dealer!) grin

Just to test this, I just snagged a 10oz Englehard silver bar for $112 after cash back. That's $12 an ounce, well under spot price, and it had free shipping. I could turn around as soon as I get it and sell it back through Nucleo Exchange for $160, which someone is bidding for buys right now. I would NOT buy gold, there's too many fakes. eBay is awash with fake Krugs especially, even in fake boxes with fake documents. Silver isn't worth it to fake, especially the proof-finish bars. Too much work.

Have fun, and don't get burned, it doesn't protect you against scam dealers! Ordinarily, I'd wonder how this could be possible and doubt it, but it's a massive loss leader on Microsoft's part, kind of like the cheap flatpanels before the holiday season.

10 oz?  I'd have gone for a hundred ouncer with that kind of discount.

I didn't see any good deals on those, I looked. Smiley A lot of the metal dealers have caught onto this, and price their Buy It Now 25% over where it really ought to be. You have to search via Newly Listed to find the ones priced near spot before someone else grabs it, to get a good deal.

Also, max discount per transaction is $250, sorry, max per account $750. Smiley
