If there was ever a case that cried out for jury nullification this one is it.

The teacher made a plea bargain  sad

Oh, BTW - this is the same judge that "excused" me (kicked me off) of a jury during "voire dire" (french for stacking the jury) because I would not agree to put aside my conscience regarding "hate crimes"  shocked

Any one who was in the Navy 30-40 years ago and did any ship maintenance could sue the government.  They wouldn't get anywhere but they could.  Good Lord, when are people going to realize they are going to die of something?

in the realworld they are sueingand going tothe bank.  the risks are real enough that they are paying out to the kids of those folks who were only esposed "second hand". the law firms have aqds on tv trolling for more plaintiffs for a gimme class action

Personal gain?

How is a teacher using hands on activities in a real-life environment exploitation for personal gain?

Hint... It's not.

There was a vacant house that burned down in our neighborhood one snowy night this spring.  The bank that had foreclosed on it had hired somebody to clean up the property.

The sheriff's department declined to further investigate, as there was no real loss.

Pretty much the same thing happened in my hometown.

Family that was there trashed the place, including pulling the wiring and as much plumbing as they could get to, including all the baseboard heating.

Local bank hires local guy to clean it up and do repairs on it.

He's working during a late fall cold snap, and is freezing his butt off, so he builds a fire in the fireplace with construction debris. He's somewhere else in the house for awhile, hears weird noises, and finds the living room and kitchen burning merrily...

Fire department says that the fire probably collapsed out onto the hearth just enough to light the carpet. After that, it's all over.

Well, in the case that I related, the fire improved the value of the land. Smiley

As to how this relates to the topic of the thread, I leave to your imagination Wink

It is MY opinion that our laws need to be "reset". There are far too many things that are considered felonies any more. Keep it to the basics like theft over a certain amount, armed robbery, rape, assault (in some cases), murder. You know, the MAJOR crimes. I think I recall that there are some 4000+ laws that could make one a felon. That seems a little ridiculous.

BTW, there ARE tests for materials that contain asbestos. My ex-wife's broker/ real estate partner bought an old house to turn into an office. I told them not to do it as it would require asbestos abatement. (It had asbestos siding) They didn't believe me and sent a sample for testing. Sure enough, it was the old asbestos siding. Abatement wasn't cheap.

Asbestos doesn't pose a major danger unless it gets airborne and in small particles. One thing that comes to mind is the USS Tripoli. She hit a mine and we continued ops for the nest week after. EVERYBODY that was on that ship received a medical record entry concerning inhalation of asbestos and other VOCs.
