Where can I buy timber screws?

I'm striking out at Home Depot and Lowes.

I need four 8 to 10 inch timber screws to fix Mom's front door. The joints have loosened over the years and a combination of new glue and timber screws is the recommended fix.

If this is a solid wood door do a careful job of predrilling the holes for the screws - I've had very long screws snap off if they encounter too much resistance.

I would not know where to find 8"+ screws; how about timber bolts, recessing the heads and filling with wood putty?

Do you have a non-big-box lumber yard that sells to contractors? Usually, they'll have what you're looking for or can order it for you....even give you good advice on how to do the job.....

Fastenal has arguably every fastener ever created.  I've always found what I need from them.

McMaster-Carr has them. Also, PLEASE drill pilot holes! If you don't, the screws can (and very well MAY) shear off, and then you have a whole new problem to deal with.

I have every intention of drilling pilot holes, don't worry.

I'm going to be using them in a 105 year old, clear American Chestnut door. That stuff is harder than iron.

And no, I won't be using wood putty. I'll be using blind plugs cut from scrap Chestnut that I have in the basement.

Oops looks like I'm late to the party. As you founf out, if you want to buy heavy duty hardware, you need to get away from the big box stores which cater mainly to the remodeling whims of middle-aged women. A place that sells Stihl chainsaws and Milwaukee Impact wrenches will carry timber screws.
