Remember people...
« on: September 23, 2008, 12:06:22 PM »
...don't talk unless you know what you're talking about.  This lesson courtesy of Joe Biden.

Joe Biden's denunciation of his own campaign's ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.

He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

As Reason's Jesse Walker footnotes it: "And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, 'Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?'"

I thought I heard that yesterday from a sound bite.  I couldn't believe that he actually said that.  Thanks for the link.

Roosevelt was elected during the Great Depression after the stock market crash.  That to me is basic history 101.  He certainly can't use modern schooling as an excuse.

I also have to mention:  If Palin had said something like this I have no doubt it would be leading the news headlines.  She would be denounced as Quayle II within minutes.

Maybe Joe is still distraught over the fact that his first wife was run down by a drunk drive?

Oh, wait, that didn't happen, either.

Who the hell is running his end of the campaign?

Al Gore?

Joe is just setting the stage for the Big Gaffe, that one forces him to step aside and let Hillary take the Veep slot.  Smart money is riding on 5 Oct.

Smart money ain't riding on it at all.  First, he doesn't want her blocking his spotlights--the Clintons do not fade into the background.  Obama is not ready for the "Co-Presidency".  Second, it would require Barack to admit he made a mistake, and that'd be a mighty big bump for the bus to roll over.  Third, Hillary has already started the "Clinton in 2012" groundwork--she's betting on an Obama defeat, and she is NOT going to wait until 2016.  Fourth, people die around the Clintons--nuff said.  And fifth, it would be seen as a clumsy blatant attempt at pandering to the female voters, after these few weeks of Dems acting appalled that a woman with children at home would seek office.

And an Obama/Clinton ticket?  Even the Paulista/Barr/Libertarian/nutjobs would turn out to vote for McCain, because the two of them spells out the death of America.

It won't be Biden, but it won't be Hillary either.

It might be Sebellius, it might Barney Frank, it might Colin Powell--but it won't be Hillary. grin

FDR won the election by attacking Hoover for his runaway spending. Seriously.
