Rescue Planned for Woman Trapped in Home by Giant Pig

A huge pig called Bruce has trapped a terrified woman in her home in Australia.

Caroline Hayes, 63, tried to leave her house in Uki, New South Wales, to use the outdoor toilet, but the animal bit her and shoved her back inside.

Bruce, who is the size of a Shetland pony, showed up at her home 10 days ago after his owners were unable to cope with him and let him loose in the rainforest.

Hayes began feeding the beast, but he became more aggressive, demanding more food and biting her on the leg when she tried to go to the toilet.

Local rangers tried to rescue her but could not capture the huge animal.

The case has now been handed over to the Rural Lands Protection Board (RLPB), who have promised not to put the animal down.

Hayes told how she took pity on the beast, but it soon took over her home.

"When I found it, it had 15 ticks in its eyes which I actually took out," she said.

"One of its eyes it couldn't see out of, so I put cream in it, but apparently it's actually claimed my land and claimed my place.

"It started getting very pushy, started pushing me around, so I started to get a bit frightened, until the stage that it started knocking on my door at 4 a.m., actually head-butting my door.

Can anyone say pig roast?

So why exactly should we not shoot Bruce?

He's already bit a person.

I know of a teenager here in the states who is pretty handy with an S&W 500 when it comes to pony-sized hogs.

In my paramedic days, I once took care of a patient who had suffered a pig bite from a regular-sized domestic sow.  The bite was nothing to sneeze at, and I can only imagine the bite that could be inflicted by a pig the size of a Shetland pony.  I am sure the pig could remove chunks of the leg if it wanted to.

From one of the links on the Fox site.

A Tweed Shire Council spokeswoman said two attempts had previously been made to remove Bruce, but Ms Hayes - who is "an animal lover and a vegetarian" - didn't want a trap to be used.

The spokeswoman also said that reports that Bruce was the size of a shetland pony were "incorrect".

ya betcha.  My Dad raised pigs.  Not even the domestic porkers are the pudgy smiling pink things you see in cartoons.  Let one go wild, and it will be a big, powerful, wild animal.

I'll never forget the first time I saw a real hog and not a cute pink cartoon one. "Porky" was a 700 lb sow that my GF's father raised for the meat. I was totally taken back by how friggin HUGE the thing was.  shocked

She came when you called her name.

You know, if Lawdog was willing to dress up as a pink gorilla for a drug bust, maybe he'd dress up as a giant truffle for this.

Of course, that isn't the kind of death I'd want on my obituary.

There has been an Australian B-movie made in the 1980's about a pig the size of a small horse running around and biting people. Of course, then being a better time, the film involved the locals grabbing their rifles and shotguns and just going after the thing. I remember laughing at the concept of them only doing so towards the end of the film - now I laugh no longer.
