That's about where the study kind of fell apart. 46 is not a big enough sample to draw strong conclusions; at best, it can indicate that further study is warranted.
Newsweek, to their credit, did raise that question later in the article, but it was kind of brushed aside by the author of the study, and Newsweek didn't pursue it.
