Non-Mainstream Music Sources?
« on: October 19, 2008, 02:42:35 PM »
Anybody have good online recommendations for getting non-mainstream and out of print music? I'm specifically looking for stuff by the Voladoras and some older stuff by Thee Ultra Bimboos.

MP3 downloads preferred, but I'll take new or used CDs as well.

For physical media, Record Exchange is pretty good.  I don't know how widespread they are, but they are scattered around Va and NC.

Tower Record was good for new stuff, but I think they closed all their stores (at least in NoVa they did).

Try: www.pandora.com

It's a free do it yourself "radio station" thing where you type in an artist or a tune and it will play what you want and similar stuff as well, as long as it's in their data base. You can't download directly from them but as the tunes run through they provide info in terms of history, availability and where to buy online. Maybe you'll have some luck there, maybe you won't. Still a great site for free listen only tune-age. You can yay or nay tunes as they come through and customize it to your liking.

Already a member of Pandora, only problem is that it ends up turning me on to music that they don't have at their site or available from their sellers (like the stuff I'm looking for now). Grrr.
