Let's see...

Brady Bill, which Clinton signed in 1993
Assault Weapons Ban of 1994
Several attempts have been pushed by Democrats to bring the AWB back into effect.
There's this from the 2004 Democratic platform: "We will protect Americans' Second Amendment right to own firearms, and we will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists by fighting gun crime, reauthorizing the assault weapons ban, and closing the gun show loophole, as President Bush proposed and failed to do.
Contrast that with the Republican National Platform in 2004: "Republicans and President Bush strongly support an individual right to own guns, which is explicitly protected by the Constitution's Second Amendment. Our Party honors the great American tradition of hunting and we applaud efforts by the Bush Administration to make more public lands available to hunters, to increase access to hunting clinics and safety programs for children and adults, and to improve opportunities for hunting for Americans with disabilities. "
After the election of 2000, in which Gore lost his home state of Tennessee and the traditionally Democrat West Virginia, many pointed to Gore's stance on stricter gun control as one of the main reasons. It's EXTREMELY uncommon for a candidate to lose his home state. One of the responses was a pulling back by the main Democratic Party on the issue of gun control, a softening, and redirection. Basically, they tried to hide the obvious - that they are the party of taking guns from the hands of the law abiding while doing little to nothing to control criminals.
I'm pretty sure that EVERY SINGLE PIECE of major gun control legislation that was either introduced, or which was passed into law since the end of WW II, was done so by Democrats, not Republicans.
Republicans were responsible for the Firearms Owner's Protection Act of 1986. They were responsible for shooting down efforts to bring back the Assault Weapons Ban. They were responsible for blocking early efforts to pass the Brady Law.
Are there pro gun Democrats? Yes.
Are there anti-gun Republicans? Yes.
But there's no disguising the damage done to Second Amendment rights by the Democratic Party in this country.
