Hancock movie: What were they thinking?
« on: December 12, 2008, 01:43:28 AM »
Just now saw it.  It was fun and interesting for about forty minutes, or however long it took before he kissed Super Girl.  Then they threw away the nifty concept of a rude, slacker super hero, and did the conventional super hero loses his powers plot.    =(

Probably the same thing Hollywood was thinking when it cast Keneau Reeves as Klattu in the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still.

May Gort fry them for that.

I could tell it sucked just from the trailer. Like we need another superhero...  ;/

Gotta agree with Fistful, er, tactical pants.  The concept was interesting and fun, but when he started losing his powers and met "supergirl" it went downhill fast.

The opening scene where he "helped" the cops catch the asian bangers was great.

Anyone else get the feeling its going to be a "global warming, you're destroying mother earth" thing?

And I liked Hancock.

I liked Hancock as well, but BOY am I not looking forward to the Day the Earth Stood Still remake - the original was perfect.

Did you ever see Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing?   =)

You mean the one that Keanu turned into a stinkfest?

Ah yes, with Emma Thompson

That movie is the reason why I call BrokenMa "Beatrice" around the house.

I really enjoyed that adaptation. Reeves' dyspeptic performance actually enhanced the film by adding contrast to the comedic wit of the other actors. If anyone was out of place for me, it was Robert Sean Leonard as Claudio.

Emma Thompson is an incredible actress, and is unfortunately very overlooked.

Her performance in Remains of the Day was nothing short of incredible, and fully matched Anthony Hopkins' performance.

You mean the one that Keanu turned into a stinkfest?

There's no way he could have done that.  He was barely on screen.  If anything, I thought Branagh's performance was a little too much.  But then, I guess his character was supposed to be obnoxiously loquacious.

Emma Thompson did a fine job, and Keaton was hilarious.  And Kate Beckinsale?  No complaints there.  :)
