Crap. Yahoo is discontinuing Launchcast...
« on: December 20, 2008, 10:37:04 AM »
It's their digital streaming music service.

CBS radio is taking it over in January. Yahoo says that CBS will maintain most of the features, but some really useful ones are going away.

Worst of all, though, is that the no commercials feature, which costs $30 a year, is also going away so that CBS can run advertisements.

The ONLY reason why I picked Launchcast was because I could pay a fee to get rid of the commercials.

I'm not at all happy. I suspect, despite Yahoo's claims, that within a matter of months it's going to be nothing more than a bunch of CBS lite stations matching what they play on their generally crappy radio stations, and all of the genre stations are going to go away.

Sigh.

First they merge & gut the XM/Sirius lineup, now this....

I used to use launchcast, but ever since I tried pandora, I've been hooked. Pandora plays music I actually like with no commercials for free. Launchcast used to throw in all sorts of random crap that was terrible.

I second Pandora.

It could be more user friendly, but I like to the way it plays similar music to what you first request.

Grr.

This ticks me off. I've been using Launchcast (the no ads version) for several years, and have enough ratings where it almost always plays something I like. I really, really liked it. Plus, I have a a half dozen of my own customized genre stations. Wonder what they'll do with those.
