A Darn Shame I Tell Ya
« on: June 04, 2005, 06:36:30 AM »
2LT Ilario Pantano has resigned his commission in the USMC.  You might recall that he was the guy that just went through an Article 32 hearing about his shooting of 2 prisoners in Iraq.  The court found that he was justified in defending himself.  Anyway, he decided he had to resign and it's a damn shame.  The only person that had a bad thing to say about this guy is the sorry-ass sergeant that got kicked out of his platoon.

Here's a good link.

The USMC doesn't deserve him or anyone like him IMO.  The USMC should be ashamed of itself for bringing charges in the first place.

Maybe we should be blaming the jackass that brought about the charges, and the media for hyping it up, before we go blaming the Corp.

It was the corps who charged him.  They seem to be more interested in projecting a 'pc' image than their own men's lives, it seems to me.

I guess I don't know how exactly the events took place, so maybe my thinking is out of line.

From what I understand, the guy made the claim.  The Corp decided it was enough to take to trial.  The trial did what it was supposed to, and found him not guilty.  But, like any trial, the damage has already been done, whether you are found guilty or not.

I guess I don't know what the charges were exactly, or how much truth they thought there was.  I just seen it as someone making a complaint, it being looked into, someone finding there was evidence that he may hav ebroken laws, and the trial decided he didn't.  Maybe it was that they knew it to be complete bogus, in which case my line of thinking would be completely off.  But if not, the idiot that brought the complaints as retaliation, and the media for hyping anything that may be anti-US, are the real ones to blame.

It wasn't actually a trial and I'm not sure they ever actually charged him with anything.  It was an Article 32 hearing which is akin to a grand jury hearing.  However, the whole thing came about because of one sorry-ass disgruntled sergeant (I can't bring myself to call him an NCO) who got booted from Pantano's platoon.  I hope that guy is smart enough to not reenlist because I'm sure people will make his life hell.
