What's a good place to look for jobs in Denver, CO?
« on: January 27, 2009, 08:36:43 PM »
Moving in two weeks to be closer to my girlfriend and get away from the North Dakota winter.  I've saved up some scratch for the move, but need to find a job in Denver.  If anyone knows of any resources, here's a brief rundown of my quals:

Bachelor's in Intl Relations
Speak some Spanish, some Russian
Intel Officer, Army Reserve
Spent time working in hotels, in the travel industry, and in uniform

Appreciate any replies.  This is my first post to APS, but I've lurked from time to time and have spent a few years on the THR(s).  Glad to finally be aboard!!

Frequent-flyer talk for Denver, is it not (airport code, unless I'm mistaken)?

Yep. KDEN, for the international code...

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Depends on what you want to do.  With the skillset listed there, Id look for something in Central City or Blackhawk in the casinos.  The pay isn't all that great but its better than what you'll make at the Marriott or Super 8.

My only requirements are that I'm able to pay bills, save some, and not hate my job.  30k would be the ideal range.  Thanks for the input so far, gents.

Alot of people call it DIA, too, which is not the identifer but an abbreviation for Denver International Airport.

What do you enjoy doing? Some people like working in an office setting: I have one meeting a week and hate it. What has been your favorite job, and why did you enjoy it?

Again, the casinos.  I know its my preference, if I cant do what I do now.  I enjoyed it when I worked in Cripple Creek, but I was all parts of security at one time or another, head slot tech and dealt blackjack and poker in a pinch.

I was making @ 42k per yr salary not including tips.

The job I enjoyed the most when I was younger was being in the field as a soldier.  I'm not ancient by any means (25) but I can't hump like I used to.  In the last year I switched to intelligence - I love the analysis aspect of the job.  I also enjoy dealing with people, as opposed to being chained to a desk or staring at a monitor all day.  Outdoor work would be a nice change - Park Ranger, etc.  I noticed on the Colorado.gov web site that there's a hiring freeze on anything state govt related with the exception of public safety jobs; so working for a PD remains a possibility.

As far as casinos, I've never dealt but could - I'm fairly well versed in the rules of poker and blackjack, and security work would be just fine.  Of course, a job in the gun industry would be something to look forward to everyday.  As I said above, there isn't much I won't do.

That's what I do. You want to be a Protection Ranger, get into the law enforcement side of stuff. Protection rangers are always in demand.

I was never a full timer in the military, but I've spent a fair amount of time activated in the reserves.  Going back to Afghanistan in a while.  The reason I never went active duty is because I like the idea of semi regular hours, not having to wear a uniform or wake up at 6AM everyday.  I like working independently or on small teams, which most of big Army isn't conducive too.

You don't know much about the civilian world, do you?
You will wear a "uniform" (Dress Code)
You will wake up early to commute.
You probably won't be even allowed to think independently.

'jis sayin'.....
