Suggestions for refresher course in Spanish?
« on: January 10, 2009, 12:22:11 PM »
I am thinking about getting one of those book/CD combos they sell at Barnes & Noble, for foreign language instruction.  Has anyone tried those, or is there any company or product that has worked for you?

I will be taking my last Spanish course this semester, to meet the foreign language requirement for my degree.  Unfortunately, I took the previous courses about five years ago, so I've forgotten quite a bit of it.   ;/

Are you referring to the "Teach Yourself" series ?

I have the TY book/CD for Gàidhlig.

I think it's pretty good.  It starts off real basic and advances quickly.  I got bogged down though because I have no one else to practice with (with whom to practice).

Spanish is easy.  IIRC on a scale of 1 to 100, Spanish is a 6 or 7 and Scots Gaelic is about 80  :O

Thanks.

I'm not referring to any particular brand.  The local B&N sells a variety of products, and I'm looking for a recommendation.

Too bad you're married. A PR friend of mine tells me the fastest way to learn Spanish is to date a pretty Spanish girl.  =D

Although I myself have never used them, I have heard good reports of the Rosetta Stone series from a number of friends.

Visit Laredo or San Antonio.

Drink heavily, and go to some place south of the border.

Hmmm...I wonder if my wife would buy that under the guise of expanding my resume and job skills.

Yeah, if I wasn't already married, I could date an illegal.  She'd just be doing a job that Americans are unwilling to do.

I got to looking at the books and such yesterday, and I remembered that I still have my book from the last two courses.  Then I'll get whatever materials the class requires.

Sorry, unnecessary thread.  :(

Another vote for Rosetta Stone. It's very good, and you can usually find a copy at most public libraries.
