Obama: "Quit listening to Rush Limbaugh"
« on: January 24, 2009, 12:16:28 AM »
Oh, yeah, he's a uniter, alright. What an ass. :P Going to push that "fairness doctrine" there? Who should they listen to, Randi Rhodes screeching?

Quote
WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."

That wasn't Obama's only jab at Republicans today.

While discussing the stimulus package with top lawmakers in the White House's Roosevelt Room, President Obama shot down a critic with a simple message.

"I won," he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. "I will trump you on that."

The response was to the objection by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to the president's proposal to increase benefits for low-income workers who don't owe federal income taxes.

Hmm,  so since he won are all members of congress supposed to lay down and say yes to everything he says?  ;/

I think Obama is right about Limbaugh.  He is an entertainer posing as a partisan hack.

I'm just tired of this bipartisan crap.

I wouldn't mind so much if it worked both ways, but "bipartisan" has become code for bend over and if your good  I'll throw in some lube.

Screw that, if republicans became republicans again they would do fine.  Why take a watered down democrat when you can have a real one of your very own?

Just as bad? That doesn't make Rush any less of a partisan hack.
You have to respect the president, whether you agree with him or not.
Obama, however, is not the president since a Kenyan cannot legally be the U.S. President ;/

These are basically two media titans fighting it out for the soul of America.  Obama is every bit as much a product of comm tech as Rush.

I think he's foolish to take Rush on head-on, by name; all this will do is make Rush bigger and stronger and make it much harder to destroy him without destroying himself.

It didn't take very long for hubris to begin manifesting itself in our new President, did it?  As for me, I'm not quite ready to begin singing "To Sir with love," thank you very much.

If When the dems re-enact the fairness doctrine, all the conservative talk show hosts will just broadcast live on the net for free.  Give free downloads for mp3 players.  They will also broadcast on XM.  They will sell commercial air time and make more money in the process, not having to share it with the network.  Talk radio stations will die, being forced to return to vanilla shows that nobody wants to listen to anyway.  The dems will get their way, but loose anyway, the new medium will supplant the old and it is unregulated.  The doors were opened on conservative talk radio and they will never be shut again, no matter how hard they try.

This is a good point.  We are going to see a migration to newer and better forms of mass communication which are outside the purview of the Federal gov't.

The sooner we get our ducks in a row in terms of outreach the better off we'll be.   We need to get everyone on our side connected and active.

You're all missing the big problem in his speech. Not that he views Rush Limbaugh as non-constructive.

But that he views 'bipartisanship' (i.e. 'bend over and do as I say') as the only constructive option for his opponents. Opposing him is apparently unproductive.

I think we recognize he has tyrant potential.  He's had it pretty much his way for a long, long time.  This is going to be a true educational experience for President Obama, possibly his first.

It's based on how you define "productive."  Obama defines productive as whatever he wants to do.  Therefore, anything that slows or prevents him from doing what he wants to do is inherently unproductive.

It's kinda like how the talking heads got their panties in a bunch the other day when Limbaugh said he wanted obama to fail.  The media has been interchangeably defining success as "improving the economy, etc." and "implementing obama's policies."  Limbaugh used the second definition, and the media decided to use the first in criticizing him.

He's a very entertaining partisan hack.  :P

But the Republicans should definitely quit listening to Rush Limbaugh.  Look how badly the Republicans have done, with all that Limbaugh-inspired govt. spending.  And the Limbaugh-esque amnesty plan for the border.

Look how badly things turned out, when they nominated Rush's favorite, far-right Pres. candidate, John McCain.  Look how badly McCain did, with the usual Limbaugh rhetoric:  slam illegal aliens, bail out Wall Street, play nice with the Democrats, etc.

Yeah, Republicans really need to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh.  'Cause they've been in lock-step with Limbaugh so far.   ;/

[translation for those of you who don't listen to Limbaugh.  The Republican Party has manifestly NOT been listening to Rush Limbaugh.  Especially not in terms of the last Presidential election.  McCain was clearly not Limbaugh's favorite person, nor did he favor the big-spending, loose border, Wall Street bailout, limp-wristed "bipartisanship" that has ruined the Republican Party.  When the Republican leadership gets serious about winning, they'll listen to people like Limbaugh and the millions of voters for which he speaks.]

How about it!

Somehow conservatism and free markets have failed us these last two years according to the punditry. Yet I saw very little true conservative governance and the market failures we have seen are due in part to government programs distorting the market while ignoring its oversight role of protecting the folks.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

And McCain is right back into things, doing the milquetoast bipartisan act.

I am really thinking more and more that he did throw it. That he didn't want the big chair, but wanted a piece of the pie, which it seems like he's about to be handed for being the tame Republican the Dems can count on to be on their side.

I guess it's a slow day so far and the blogs needed something to get enraged over.

Yup.

I notice that one particular user, with a moniker taken from a particularly Republican president, is manifesting some of that very rage.

"Rushbo"?

"Doodie-head"?

Ok, obviously big boy words fail in this thread.
