Need to knock down an old house?
« on: February 24, 2009, 04:58:28 PM »
Load it with explosives, and use a cannon as the initiator of the demolition sequence.  Watch the roof launch:  =D

So was that demolition with a TNT permit, or...

...just the ULTIMATE Tannerite weekend?

Somebody has mentioned propane as the expansion agent of choice in that particular home deconstruction.

I dunno.  I just know that the house basically heaved itself skyward.  The cannon got a bent or broken axle.

Way cool.   =D

its hard to get the right amount of propane too much is as bad as too lil  surprisingly a lil over 3% is supposed to be optimal in spud guns.

My dad is looking for a way to get rid of an old house on the family farm....maybe I should email him this video as a suggestion.   =D

Propane, electric valves, old camera flashbulbs...and distance behind a hill?

If you can figure the house volume, you could determine the right flow rate and time for the right fuel-air ratio, to know when to set off the flashbulbs, and...

...is that considered a DD, to make a house into a big FAE?

Probably.

They'd have to prove you did it on purpose, though...

In any case, the house is too close to my grandmother's house.  It wouldn't actually be practical even if we could get away with it (not to mention the fact it lacks gas hookups), but I thought my father would get a laugh out of it.

Well...um...if you blow up something with a line attached to it, the utility will probably have you arrested.

I meant grill tanks...

grill tank to top floor preferably in attic hatchway  candle lit on bottom floor  open valve   leave rapidly   perimeter control is vital ignition can come at anytime.  and if you are wondering if you are far enough away the answer is no.

I always wanted to try the flour mill/sawdust/grain silo effect to knock down a house.  We went over it in Combat Engineer AIT during improvised munitions class but never tested it.  It seemed like an awfully involved and easy to fail on way to take down a house involving multiple timed charges.

All-purpose flour, a balloon, an electric fan, and a spike.  Just need to know amounts and placement.  Trust me on this one, you do not want to test it "just too make sure it works."  Also, it seems to be a better idea to try this in your best friend's father's garage than in your own father's garage.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.

Bless the women and children who firm our hands.

Dunno what it does to a house...  But... It collapses a cave quite nicely.

Allegedly, there's a way to make a wicked nifty fireball with slightly damp flour, an arty sim and an unspecified third device.

Heh...my dad emailed me back.  Said he had already thought of it, but discarded the idea because he couldn't get dynamite without a blaster's license.

He said my great-grandpa would have gotten a kick out of it, though.  He used to blast tree stumps as a side job.

It said in the comments they used 87 lbs of dynamite.  That was a pretty cool video.

You can see the propane tank next to the house.

Damn fine way to spend a little time with your buddies, wasn't it? I laughed at the comment in the thread you posted where the guy said they were going to go around and apologize to the neighbors for the noise. Neighbors in a five-mile radius. Damn.
