Some women want to talk the talk and get a pass for it, some want to talk the talk and are more than willing to walk the walk. I never hit a woman in the years I worked the rough side of things, but I threw a few of the latter type down on the ground and bounced some off walls, doors, and other people.  It's very hard to overcome the societal prohibition against hitting or hurting women, but if you want to keep from getting hurt when you're working the the streets and bars you better work at overcoming it.

None of the above applies to the cop in the story. He's just chickensh*t.

I had a series of fights with a jerk that kept pestering me at work when I was a bike messenger in the early 90's I had won the first two easy the third and fourth his girl friend kept intervening.
but I still won, the 5th fight she tripped me while I was fighting her BF, and kicked me in the head a few times. ... I got up and kicked her once, what the hell was I supposed to do? let her kill me or give me brain damage?
The kick worked wonders, she still hung around flapping her mouth but didn't want any part of physical confrontation.

Exceptions to every rule.  Both of yours are valid.  Hell, I'd lay a woman out, in extreme circumstance as well. 

I just meant that as a general rule, I'd never strike a woman.  Restrain one trying to do me harm?  Sure.  Shoot one threatening me with a weapon.  Without a second thought.  I just meant in general.

1)If she's hysterical, a quick slap is acceptable (works for anyone)
2)If she's engaging in an action that will be immediately dangerous to herself, and knocking her out is the only way of "saving" her
3)If she decides she wants to strike "like a man"

Some people just can't take "You got your ass beat, now go away!" for an answer, can they? 

You're a patient man, smitty. I do believe I'd've had to brain the both of 'em with something metallic and heavy. Probably when he came back after the second time, definitely after the third time.

The guy was  such a PITA!  messengers would have to congregate in certain
areas and he would come up and announce "he was gonna kick my @$$"
Then when it was on he then threaten to ( & call ) the police!
The thing is the moron always had crack and weed on him and ended up in custody
for it!!!
I've never met anyone so damm clueless, believe me I wanted to brain him if only to get some respite
but I didn't want to go to jail myself.
He is the type of moron who calls the police if he buys fake crack on the street, I'm sure he's dead by now.

I busted a girls nose once on barracks duty back in the day.  Party in the common area going a little too late and long and loud into the night.  Went to bust it up, and the girl, a well known barracks bunny, bum rushes me with a pool cue.  Stepped into her and delivered a stout elbow to the nose.  She got a busted nose, and banned from the base. 
Hit a girl in a bar, once, too.  Not teling that story unless its around a campfire over beers, as it goes best with alot of four letter words.

While on paid leave after the 2006 shooting, Schene was stopped for drunken driving. He registered a .04 percent blood alcohol level during a test, but had been drinking and taking prescription medications. He was suspended for two days and a received a deferred sentence, public records say.

I was very sensitive when I was drinking, now that I've been sober for awhile I realize
it was a problem. So I asked God for help, a few years ago my ex GF said "you're really insensitive!"
