Wasting time on reporting DNC list violations to FCC?
« on: March 24, 2009, 09:37:25 AM »
For some reason I have recently been getting an upswing in telemarketers calling me on both my cell phone and my landline.  Both numbers are on the Do Not Call list and I have no sort of business relationship with the callers nor are they non-profit.

I've been collecting what information I can and then doing the FCC reports.  Think it actually matters?

Have you filled out any applications of any kind recently, including for discount cards at groceries or free drawings?  Many of them have a provision allowing the sale of contact information to solicitors who are then allowed to call you, notwithstanding the DNC list.

Political orgs can call anyone they want, no matter if they are on the do-not call list or not, so don't bother reporting the DNC for calling you.

EDIT: OH, I misunderstood.  I thought you were saying that the DNC (Democratic National Committee) was spamming you via phone.  Nevermind, then.

IIRC, the Do Not Call list is only good for like 3 or 5 years.  You might have dropped off and have to re-up.

I'm just wondering how it's going to affect me as a business... It's cheap for me to cold call prospective customers. It's expensive to snailmail to them. If things are slow, I can sit at the phone all day long, until I'm hoarse...

Are these calls from south florida or new jersey?
I get them almost every day from two places, one is a "car warranty" jobber, the other is a "lower your credit card interest rates".  I cannot get them to stop calling.

Bogie checkout vistaprint.com.  They have some mass mailing options.  They have some free stuff you can take advantage of, too, but be careful at checkout and read every check box so you don't end up paying for stuff you don't want.

Unfortunately, the worst that calls me are the Sheriff's association or the fireman's association trying to get me to commit to a donation.  I already give to charities supporting police officers so I hang up on them.  I normally don't answer the phone unless I know the number.

Charities make more money selling your phone number to other charities then they do from you.
So once you donate, you are on a sucker list. (I'm sure they don't call it that.) And every charity will be calling.
