PrePaid Cell Phone Plans...
« on: April 16, 2009, 05:28:43 PM »
... any recommendations?

Not a huge fan of cell phones but I do recognize their usefulness in emergency or on the road car failure situations or I'm gonna be late kind'a stuff.

On the rare occassion I carry my wife's phone it just doesn't get used. Last year I kind'a needed one once and really needed one once. 10 or 12 minutes tops.

I'm not going to add a phone to the wife's plan for $10/month. Just not worth it.

Are there prepaids out there where I could buy the phone and say 100 minutes that won't expire for a year?

I've been to best buy but the sheer volume of choices in phones, plans etc is overwhelming.

What shuuuuuld I DO?

Take yur best shot's and have fun (re: What should I do?) but also please make some prepaid cell phone recommendations too.

Cancel your home phone, spend the $10 and join your wife's plan.

Reasonable recommendation but:

I have thought of that but I get a break on the landline because it is part of a bundle. Might save a little but not enough to justify cancelling as I still believe that landlines have some utility.

With T-mobile's prepaid plans as soon as you spend $100 in minutes for the phone you get 50% more minutes with each future refill and the refills are good for a year.  My wife has had a phone on their prepaod plan for several years now.  We have had no complaints with the service.

I've had great service through Net10. Not sure how much it would be for a year, as I do use my phone a bit more than that. But, I like the option of buying minutes online or at any Walmart.
