Good deal on a netbook
« on: July 09, 2009, 02:26:18 PM »
Refurb Acer Aspire One 10.1 in for $260 +$5 shipping. http://www.woot.com

I know some people on here had expressed interest in 'em, so if you wanted one this might be a good chance.

Those two words put together does not surprise me one bit.  I will never buy any product, with the name of Acer on it.  One of the companies I work for buys Acer all of the time, because they are cheap.  I use my own laptop now because I got tired of them taking a crap.  BTW- I went through 3 desktop computers and 4 monitors in a little over a year!

Really? I've not heard reports of this issue. And I'm using an Acer monitor as I type this. :P

When I asked here a month ago about Acer laptops, I got similar replies.  I had already bought the laptop before the warnings came in, though.

So far, it's worked very well, and I don't have any complaints about it.  It had some very nice specs at a decent price. We'll see in a couple of months or years how well it stands up, but I don't really anticipate any problems with it.

I have the 8.9" aspire one. First hard drive failed, which acer made good promptly. No other problems.

My Acer Aspire 3000 is still going strong after six years, although it is no longer my primary system.

No problems with mine - or my wife's. It should be kept in mind that Acer has sold a huge pile of the Aspire Ones - law of averages applies, and even a high quality item will have a percentage of lemons.

Having said that I have seen brand new units at that price, and the MSI Wind as well.

I've had my Aspire One for 3+ months, without a single issue so far.  To be fair though, I don't use it every day.

I've had my acer aspire notebook for several years now, and I have beat this thing like the proverbial red-headed stepchild.
The frame is cracked, and one of the plastic covers on the underside is hanging loose, but it still works like a champ.
The harddrive failed a couple of years ago, but that may have been from a sudden stop (Did I mention that this unit is used primarily inside of a large delivery vehicle for music/audiobooks/email while I am driving all through Wisconsin?
I don't blame the hard drive on Acer one bit though, as Acer doesn't make drives.
And when I say few years....I'm talking close to 5 or 6 so it's pretty much end of life, but won't die.

I've had an Acer wide screen monitor on my desk for about 2 years and not a hint of trouble.

We have a refurbed Acer Aspire One (8.9" model).  It works fine for us.

Brand new 10 in screen models? I've only seen the smaller screens available at that price.

My brother told me Walmart in Mobile has the 10" model for $279 and isn't a refurb, but I don't know if that price is available everywhere.

My company is now reselling an e-machines full laptop with a 15.6 widescreen for 350ish.
Brand new, AMD processor 4 gigs ram, 160gb drive with a full keyboard (including a numerickeypad)
And the thing is really light.
I'll try and find out the model number if anyone is interested so you can look up the full specs.

If you are looking for a real budget machine, I found this...
ASUS EEEPC900A-BFBB01
$180 or $150 with a rebate; new.

http://bensbargains.net/deal/106983/?referrer=rss

Very bare bones netbook. My buddy bought one, I played with it. Does the job and very portable. Storage is small, but that can be upgraded later (which is beside the point anyway).

I bought one, should arrive Monday. I'm still waiting for that $30 rebate.
I plan to use it at work. Employer gave me a monstrously huge laptop that throws my back out every time I pick it up. (http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/notebooks/precn_m90/pd.aspx?refid=precn_m90&s=gen). I appreciate their efforts, but I wonder if it might have been cheaper and more effective to give me a desktop and netbook. I plan to use the netbook to carry my presentations around to the conference rooms and off site instead of the big machine.
