frig not working

freezer works fine frig not   how does/could that work?  i don't mind taking a stab at fixing it since otherwise its gonna be trash. all help and swag welcome

Your fridge gnomes have died. You need to refresh them.

What kind of fridge? There are a LOT of different kinds of fridges out there using a bunch of different operating styles.

gotta look and see in the am  its the fridge in the guides office at the gallery.  i have gradually fixed a wider and wider range of things so now i am called for all busted things

Freezer works but fresh food does not?
Do you have brand and model?
Sounds like defrost or fan problem.

i will get name and brand in am   its funny my boss is keeping track of what they pay me and what i've saved em just in repairs. its a riot. its a nonprofit and even as their cash dwindles they are still amazing in how they approach spending. should get even better soon. they are even more inefficient than a union house

A cheap fix is to defrost the freezer. Put freezer stuff in a cooler, shut off the refrigerator, and let it thaw. You can quicken the process by using a hair dryer to direct warm air into the vents at the rear of the freezer. A few hours with the hair dryer or overnight with the freezer door open should do it.

A pot of boiling water works too. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use anyinstrument, sharp or dull to break the ice off if that's the problem. One teeny hole in the aluminum evaporator and it's good bye Charlie for the fridge. My first wife did that to ours once. Very embarassing for a refrigeration guy for his wife to do that. And I couldn't fix it either.  =|

Don't some residential units use a damper controlled by a temp control for the refrigerator portion of the box?

Is the freezer really working fine?

freezer ice cold   my home unit did the damper thing  you could screw it up by leaving door ajar  moist air would freeze the air passage shut

Yes they do.
Some use small electric motors for the damper, some have a secondary fan, some even have another evaporator in the fresh food side.
It all depends on the design.

Luckily, all my appliances are working as designed. 

But, when they do wig out, I bet I'll have a better than 50% chance of some wise fellow diagnosing the problem for me on APS.

Sounds about right.  Can't recall how many fridges I've had to defrost due to this problem.
We have these garden spray bottles that do nicely.

One thing to look for is to make sure the girlfolk (these are the mostly likely culprit in my experience) are shutting the door properly (they're especially prone to it if the door is difficult to shut), and also check your gasket.  Sounds like you're getting a lot of moisture in there somehow.
They could also be leaving it open for lengths of time.

Pull the grill  off the bottom.  Many times the mfg will leage a diagnostic diagram there for service type folks.
